Eternal Promises

they said...why bother
no one will come
and I said...because he lived,
we should
because he cried when
he thought no one was looking
because when he laughed
he filled the room with a
booming happiness that
vibrated deep inside
because he had the
warmest hands, despite the
coldness that surrounded him,
daily
because his eyes held the
stories I asked to hear
and he readily told
because ... it was this man, who
told me how to hold the earth
to my face and pray
because ...
   because, this gentle soul deserved
to rest beneath this tree, in the shade
...where the desert sun finally wont
hurt his eyes ... with a marker made of marble
that was so lovingly chosen, with his
name written for all to see...
because this man, this ... person...
this dove that touched and changed me
deserved more than an unmarked, uncared
for final stop.
He has a name, a soul ... he had a reason to live...
and a wish, to leave
And with that... I let go...
       dropping the earth
         he taught me to grasp
            and whispering ...
"I promise I'll never forget... Joe"

I have no proper words other than you show your love for him and respect as well in this beautiful heartwrenching piece.

Mark, Victoria, vicky, Charisma,
my love for Joe was not something I ever expected. as a matter a fact I drove by this man every day, until I finally "saw" him. and stopped and listened. for days afterwards, I could not get this man out of my mind. the things that he said to me, the way society looks at the homeless, I started to see so much differently.
for two years my life has been blessed by having Joe in it. and the ache in my heart
I'm sure will fade some, but his light will always help me see through his eyes.

If only everyone could have met him. Could have seen his eyes.. heard his stories.

I've rambled.. I'm sorry, *tears*

thank you all for your comments...

the greatest gift we can give
sometimes.. is just ourselves.
