Unstrung Pearls

Our days of love and laughter
like pearls upon a string
each perfect in its own way
Every shared memory
was a jewel all its own
Taken separately—
they are beautiful
When strung together—
they are exquisite
I wore them with pride,
my perfect pearls
A woman never looks as lovely
as she does when wearing them

And then it happened—
Truth
like a rabid dog
tore my heart from my throat
breaking the treasured strand
I watched helplessly
as the cherished memories
crashed to the floor at my feet
Now I’m left holding
this empty string
surrounded by unstrung pearls

Tara,
this is wonderful. . . it's always sad when it all comes apart. . .

Tara~
Sometimes a sad heart writes such lovely poetry.

There will come a new jeweler to artfully restring
the pearls of your heart.

This is a gem, Tara.

Tara, I had to put this back up the top. I love the comparison, beautifully written.
