Listening to every heart

it’s not about watercress

it’s a tap, tap tapping
there on the pane
of her window-brain
an ever incessant
knocking on wood
her own personal
woodpecker, if you would
if you could
if you should
this incessant rhyme
time after time and
it could, it should
if it would
go away…

perhaps sanity would
return one day

so her thoughts ramble
and amble along
lingering and
pingering a regretful
song
along the lines of
where and when
there and then
confused and chagrined
she takes it again
on the chin

past sins

who’da thought
who’da bought
now she’s caught
the lesson’s taught
but it’s not what
she sought
for

closed doors

nevermore
comes to mind
one more time
as she hears
the sorry rhyme
and wonders “if”
she should and
“when” she did
and continues to
ramble incessant
like a katydid

and wishes it
were over

she hates to think
or dwell in drink
when it’s not fun
when she’s the one
to pay the price
a handsome price
for loving him
who won’t forget
there was a where
there was a when
before his time
but not since then

it’s the elephant
in the room

a big gray and
obstinate elephant
who rants along
rumbling and grumbling
and getting big foot prints
in her sand
on her land
at its command
not hers

she’s unsure

who let the elephant in?

it’s not about watercress
and finger sandwiches
it’s not about
her mom’s time
and it’s not
about her time
‘cause she
never really had one

but it’s more about
your time
and a heed
to this call
to grab it up
and grab it all

‘cause it’s not about watercress
it’s about the elephant
that someone left
in the room.

Loving someone and trying to forget can be like an elephant in the room, very nicely put and I understand.

you've outdone yourself - this time - totally original - and so full of meaning - that pachyderm - pushed me out of my bed some time ago and is VERY  hard to ignore.

Sunshine,
This is an epopee. Put a star on it when you put it away. *L*

Kari, marvellous, magic, loud applause, oh this is good, better, best, I love this.
Yes an elephant in the room, oh wow, girl this is........... wonderful.
I can hardly type, for clapping my hands.
Take care

I've been trying to get rid of this elephant for quite a while Sunshine. . . sometimes, you have to leave it instead of it leaving you. . .

Wonderful my friend. . .

This is an excellent poem!  I love how the thoughts just pour onto the screen.

Take me as I am or watch me as I go

I've read several of your poems lately that are so filled with angst...I hope you are ok? Don't let that elephant stomp out the sunshine!!! If you ever want to talk, I'm here!

This certainly not about watercress at all
It's all about your talent
What wonderful rhyming and originality
Two thumbs up for the "watercress poetess"!
