When Anna Smiles
~*Marge Tindal*~

I watched as she sat at the table
Clearly no one else in sight
Yet she talked to a vision I could not see
And she held him with her words this night

I'd heard the tale of this woman
who had lost her man and her mind
She rendezvoused with him on anniversaries
in a world of her own lost in time

She lit his cigarette for him
Poured his drink and then her own
No one bothered to tell her
to get up and go home

She toasted to their love
Glasses held high
To onlookers it appeared
time had passed her by

The candle flickered as she kissed him
And with just an eye to bat
he appears out of nowhere
just like that !
When Anna smiles

Did I also see the man she saw
if only for a minute
'Twas their anniversary and she shared it alone
or was he really in it ?

Long after the lights were out
after music had stopped playing
I wondered where Anna went
Could it have been crazy ?

If the smile on her face was any indication
I'd have to say there's a possibility
that if it gives Anna a smile
Crazy just might be ... a nice place to be

Kathleen~
She is very original - one of a kind.
One of the little living legends of our community.
I must give Balladeer credit for encouraging me to reach deeper
into myself for these stories that need to be told.

JanetMarie~
She is a lady who most of our community shuns for her ecsentric ways ...
they call her crazy ...
I call her Anna of a million smiles.

INot2B~
I thank you for your warm comments.

Victoria~
Thank you for reading of Anna.

Karilea~
She is unique and to be cherished.
Thank you, my friend.

Martie~
I knew you'd see Anna's smile.

Marge-
oh how i LOVE this one.
i can just see her now...sitting
with him and the two of them
   smiling.    it's too bad that
so many people choose to judge
   and label instead of looking
   deeper and seeing what's inside.
'Anna of a million smiles' is very
fortunate to have someone like you
who accepts her for all she is.

   love you, my friend,

Marge,

This was wonderful my friend.  Perhaps, it is not Anna who is crazy, but those who cannot see what she sees with her heart.  What a touching story that captivated my attention.  I knew you would see . . . some things are so much deeper than what we see on the surface.

Marge,
In agreement with Lone Wolf, let me just add that this is a fabulous poem. Anna is real out there, it is just that too many people are intrigued with less important menial things so they do not give a damn about the Anna's of this earth. I love this poem thank you so much.

Respond to my call and let the waves of my heart fill your life with the wonders of love

What a special piece Marge, oh to see through the eyes of another....and, I have to agree with some of the others, who's to say he's not right beside her. Not for nothing, but, my Mom's name was Anna and when she died I found it much easier to believe that she just went far away somewhere, I chose Florida.  You don't suppose........  Bonnie

I think that at 25 years of age, I have seen things that no one will admit to know the truth or saying it is crazy. I LOVED your poem. It would be nice to think that a true love would continue through out time. Maybe they do, how are we to know. I say if it makes one smile and doesnt hurt another, let them be.     PLY
