Is it when the sight of you  brings me neither happiness nor anger
distaste nor contentment
contempt nor humor?
When do you know that love is gone?

Is it when I forget what first attracted me?
I don't call you first when important things happen?
That lovemaking makes me cry, and more lonely than before?
When do you know that love is gone?

Is it when you find out about my life by reading my email?
Or listening to my telephone calls?
Or asking our kids?
When do you know that love is gone?

Is it when I wish that you will find another
and fall madly in love so I will be guilty no more?
Or just stop wanting or needing or liking me?
Because I know that love is gone.

More good questions here? I think maybe all of those tell you. Touching and sad.
Take care.

Julie, I think you have comprehensive ansewers to the question of 'When'.

Very sad, but a poem I was glad to have read.

catalinamoon, sven and jon....

Thanks for your responses.....I think in writing this I was giving myself the answers already, and wishing it was easier to break someone else's heart.

*Sigh*

Thanks again!

When is love gone?  When you smell the cologne you gave him and don't automatically turn to see if he's there, when you wake in the morning and don't expect to find him lying next to you, when hearing his name doesn't bring a smile of pleasure or a wince of pain, when you stop writing him poems that he'll never read.  I'll let you know when I reach that point.

Take me as I am or watch me as I go

Julie-I am pondering these same questions myself.  When he leaves on a trip and comes back and I neither miss him, nor care that he is back and sometimes wish maybe he'd stay away a little longer.  I know what you mean about the crying part after making love. You hit home with this poem, sensitive issues. I hope in your future and mine we will work it out. Hugs, nice piece.

Julie

You have asked the questions that I have asked myself privately for years. Thank you for sharing your thoughts.

I am with you in times of bliss
sadness also knows me well
seek me with a soft kiss
if I am there the lips will tell.

Look for me when you are alone
feel me amongst the largest crowd
If there I shall always be known
even within the darkest cloud.

Julie,

Very sad and not an easy thing to do . . . I have been on both sides and neither is much fun.  Good writing.  Welcome to Passions.

Excellent writing...reminded me of the moment in "War of the Roses" when the husband was rushed to the emergency room...perhaps to die...and the wife was notified...and she realized she didn't have to rush to the hospital because she didn't care if he died...the love was gone...James
