Send Me “Cheap Roses”

I am not the delicate nature
of an exquisite rose
and do not bring
a heady scent
to the nose

I am more the cinnamon
scent of a carnation
that parlay
the intricacies
of my day

as do the petals of
that bloom, in
and around, up,
down
curving crown

yes, I am this
less expensive
and longer-lasting
flower
I have that power

and in your garden
I would grace
and bring the elusive
smile
to your face

and be me pink, red,
yellow or white
on long green
graceful stem I stand
under sunlight, bright

so catch me up
on the breeze of night
fragrant cinnamon
true delight
of many eons

and breath me in
touch my curves
and remember that
you can afford
the flower that serves

I liked this a lot, Sunshine. I like roses, but carnations are also very special to me.

Thank you Elizabeth...many is the time I would prefer carnations over roses, simply for the lasting power of the fragrance and the flower itself...

No matter what petals you are covered in, you shine daily.  The true down to earth
nature of this poem reflects deeply in the
kind of woman most men would truely love to
have at their side.  One that is in touch with reality but yet knows how to dream and
to make them come true.  Wonderful penning...worthy of my library.

Karilea--It's not the price of the flower that is important but the way you feel about it...carnations last lots longer.  Enjoyed your poem!

This is a humbling poem, and yes, all of that and more!  I remember the beautiful wildflowers my daughter would bring me as a child and how much they meant, more than any expensive flower.

over the rain-green grass,
and the sun drips honey.""

Martie, the cost should never be considered...but the flower that denotes the character...ah, now there you go...

Daniel, thank you for reading, so thoroughly...

Kathleen, thank you for the new idea!...

Nope I didn't know that...but it makes
perfect sense to me...they smell better,
they last longer and they are cheaper
...just my opinion though...lol

A carnation is a gentle flower born
A roses scent without the thorn.
         lovely poem.
