Comeback Charlie.

(Daniel J D)

So many years ago Charlie
Smiles you brought to many
Quietly, in silent films
Your talent, you flirt
Brought many to tears

On the big screen
In black and white
You danced to tunes
Pulled faces and wobbled
On decks of ships afar

The dances so performed
And the growling angry man
Who would ever forget
That mighty walking stick
The moustache and the make up

Oh! How laughter of that kind
Today, would bring humankind
To appreciate the simple jestures
Of the one and only
Little lover, Charlie.

Respond to my call and let the waves of my heart fill your life with the wonders of love
(Daniel J D)

OH WOW Daniel...I can just see him walking down the street twirling that stick...twitching his mustache...those kind of laughs are a thing of the past I think...can you see people paying to see him now?

That's a good point, did laughter die and be reincarnated in a sexualy repressed mind !?! All jokes seem to be sex related or crude nowadays, what happened to good old fashioned family entertainment . Bring back the likes of Charlie, Bring back the likes of Charlie, Bring back the likes of Charlie ...
Great poem devoted to a truly great person and a whole group of truly great people who are sadly all but extintinct .

Paula,
So much said in that short reply. Charlie, lives in the heart of many. Artists of the like are frowned upon these days in preference for the ruthless.

angelswing,
Damm right you are, thanks for the reply. There have been so many great comedians since Charlie, but he was the very first on the screen. Heh! he is still there.

Paula,
The likes of Charlie may not appeal to the great majority these days. But, Charlie lives in the lives of many.

angelswing,
Thank you for the reply. Charlie was the first comedian on the screen, can anyone match that, appealing to millions, however he was a very lonely man.
