the forest's quilt ...

the crickets lasted until nearly november this year;
a last chirp heard on october's twenty-seventh day.
it was early evening, when the coolness strikes quick;
and the gravel-gray skies begin to grow darker still.
indian summer's gloried days fell again without fear;
our sun's annual battle with itself never goes away.
with leaves all but gone, only their memories left to stick;
in my mind the colors aflame to warm my winter's grill.
green's metamorphosis hinged upon a lessening of light;
when the earthen couturier comes dressing the trees.
a wardrobe's fantasy of nature's encore performance;
yet subtlety imbues a keen interest in shading hues.
hazel turned olive turned coppered maples so slight;
then plum brown, burnt orange and umber let free.
valleys of crimson between gold-capped oaks enhance;
the forest's quilt, made fresh again for our views.

My calling before me, let quill be my offering;
For to be called poet, no greater gift to receive.

A wonderful description!...and with a perfect title I think.

MAMiller~
Your patchwork quilt of the forest colors
lays in vivid array across the page.
Thank you for presenting these lovely images.
