The Play at the Bay

There is an island out my way
it’s nestled sweet in Newport bay
The pavilion opens to water view
of pelicans and sea lions too

Can you see the color blue
tinged with green of sun lit hue
the sound of seagulls everywhere
and smell of fish-tinged salty air?

The fishers on board the ship of dreams
their poles lined up and taped it seemed
the hole filled up with hope filled cast
the bounty swirling gold tinged class

I watched the pelicans circle there
old sea bums hand out needed share
there pushing, shoving, butting in line
wishing on free fish to dine

The sea lion wallowed in water mall
the most graceful beggar of them all
he danced around those beaks of hope
with nonchalance his spirit soaked

I’m sure the scene is viewed again
each night as dark is closing in
and lovers watch the moon at play
holding hands by Newport Bay

In the dew of little things,
the heart finds its morning
and is refreshed.
(ee cummings)

" lovers watch the moon at play
holding hands by Newport Bay "
was all I needed to complete a beautiful picture in words - wonderful Martie

Martie~
What a delightful render of rhyme !

'The sea lion wallowed in water mall
the most graceful beggar of them all
he danced around those beaks of hope
with nonchalance his spirit soaked'

Martie, what a nice picture. Newport bay is so lovely, and I would wish to be one of those lovers walking hand in hand. They are so happy, and how hard it seems to emulate them.
And besides all that, this is a great poem, too!
