It’s way out past the city limits, off an old dirt road,
almost hidden, quite out of the way...
The owner likes her privacy, as does her clientele...
they all enjoy her “Blue Ribbon Café”...

It used to be an old abandoned shack from years gone by,
with crooked walls and holes worn through the floor...
Half the roof was missing, but it had a gorgeous view,
and the only thing worth saving was the door...

Now, anybody else would laugh, then shake their head and run...
It wasn’t worth the price, or so it seemed...
But one man’s garbage is another’s treasure, as they say,
and this turned out to be her long-lost dream...

She scrubbed and polished, spit and shined, and cleaned up all the mess,
then hired all the workers she could get...
They plumbed...re-wired...built...re-roofed...and made it straight and strong...
but still it wasn’t finished, not just yet!

From deep within her antique trunk, she pulled a hand-carved sign...
She couldn’t help but shed a tear or two...
He'd carved a treble clef of ribbons on a block of oak...
then somehow, he had turned the whole thing blue!

She'd loved the man with heart and soul, but he had not survived...
She'd kept the dream alive along the way...
And now she hung the sign above the shiny old oak door...
It read “Welcome to the Blue Ribbon Café”...

She knows she’ll do good business, and because it’s out of town,
it’s a haven for creative friends and such...
The scenery is inspiring, such a wonder to behold...
The setting here was forged by God’s own touch...

Tonight she’s planned a gathering for the poets that she knows...
She met her friends upon a Passion site...
With food for all, and all their dates, and spirits flowing free,
tonight is designated “Poet’s Night"!

Her memories still lay in her heart, and his is kept alive,
by sharing what they had along the way...
So,  here’s to “Poet’s Night”, and here’s to lovers and their dreams...
They're welcome at her “Blue Ribbon Café”!

Table for two, please!
Just sat down to read for the evening.
What better place to do so than inside such a wonderful place.
Bravo to you and the Cafe!
A great poem, Sunny1.  I can almost smell the coffee!

What a touching tale of how a woman care so much about making an old shack into something beautiful that she and others can enjoy.

Hi little sis, well isn't this a treasure, it's perfect Sunny, utterly perfect. Now isn't it a shame you won't open a branch right here. There's the river, (which considering the floods we've had, is a little nearer than it was) and then there's the apple orchard, either of those sound like a suitable spot. Well let me know kid and I'll walk outside and tell the farmer you want it.
Remember take care and tomorrow, well today, I'll introduce you to the baby of the family. She's 32 but she's still the baby.
Take care

Oh Sunny, this is the exact place I need to spend my days and nights in. Specially since I have no man anymore to spend the nights with, hey maybe I could meet a true romantic at your cafe, someone who would really understand.(sorry, I digress) Lets make it really happen. I'll help.

Hi, and I'm so glad to see you! Yes, my muse is to be thanked for the story!! Thank you, also!!

~~~ Victoria ~~~
I like the out of the way places, also! I guess most poets need a place where they can relax and think!!!  Thank you, my friend!
~~~ Wilfred ~~~
Oh my! I do thank you for the comparison to R.Service. He is one of my all time favorites, and yes......maybe the clean Alaskan air does something to the inner workings! There's lots to see up here, Wilfred, and you'd fall in love with it!!!
Thank you once again!!

This Cafe is a dream of mine, a little haven for people who write. Who knows.....it could happen someday!  I will send you a Grand Opening invite!!  Thank you!!

~~~ Catalinamoon ~~~
At this Cafe, you would be able to meet those who have like minds, and understand your way of thinking. What a change that would be, eh?  Can we do it?? How about Northern California.....around Mendocino??
~~~ Paula ~~~
Yes......a toast to the beginning of a dream come true!!  There are still dreamers out there, and I hope it stays that way!!

~~~~~~ Thank you all for stopping by!! ~~~~~~
On my way.  Don't mind if I arrive a little early do you?  Want to grab a good table before the place fills up completely..looks like I may be cutting it close as it is.  Lovely write and I couldn't come up with a better place to be nor better times shared than what you described.  Now family does get special consideration do we not?
Sunny, this is fantastic, could I ask where do you get your images?
No, I don't mind you asking at all.....I make them.  This picture was meant for an album cover for my blues collection. And then the poem popped out, so here you are. Most everything besides the gifs are mine.
Thank you for asking, my friend, as sometimes I'm not sure how they look on the other end in someone else's computer!
To get there, all you have to do is close your eyes, and picture a building snuggled in among the trees with the snowy mountains for a backdrop, and a wide creek with a bridge out past the front deck. You'll hear music, and laughter, and smell my home baked bread with hot moose stew!! There's plenty to drink, and all your Passion friends are inside, sharing as they always do.
             C'mon in!!!!!!
