As I said in reply to someone, I quite like to play with the shape of my poems. Although wrote this a while ago, it seems to fit quite well with my life for the past few days (she said no) and, yes i know, i missed out the 5-liner! oops!

Can't see how it happened

Started off with so many
impossible to lose

Happy in amongst a crowd
no one focuses on a cell
the organism itself content

Starting the journey
everyone excited
wrapped up warm for what's ahead
and we start

Along the journey of the night
the feeling of the crowd
radiates inward
all held safe against the chill
feeling blissful
unaware this moment can end

Among so many other souls
happy at last, forever more
and all at once, the chill strikes
i look up from my inner thoughts
and slowly terror grasps my throat
as i see no group at all
alone in fear in an empty void

Panic sets in as the feeling grows
the fear increasing without relent
the chill at once strikes deep within
acute and dull together intermingled
the fear, the sadness overwhelming
i shout into the empty air
my condensed breath the only sight
no reply but my own voice echoed fairy-faint

And as the terror builds up still more
no shield from any dread solid-dream
i see a faint shape approaching through the still air
it comes closer, the charge building on my skin
what is this thing, this inhabitant of the realm of fear?
a nightmare entity, intents wicked
or a scout come to take me back to precious sanctuary?
i see it now, a human, unaware, its eyes as glass
the very object that would strike the sheerest horror

I see my own face in the glass reflection
and i realise, defeated by terror
it is me, unconscious
rather than suffering the eternal fear
drifting ethereal through an infinite realm of illusion
the then-me drifts past, its steps occluded by the fog
it stumbles past my field of view
leaving me once more to myself
the horror crumbling my mind even now
as i sit and wait for the glass-eyed ghost to return

Thought I'd just add this. Sorry if it breaks "the regulations" to do so.
Swap pounds for dollars if american

Every week you play the lottery
you know that you won't win
"one damn number!"
hurts more than you expected?

A three-year lottery
three years worth of rollovers
a thousand pounds for every second
knew i wouldn't win
oh why, oh why,
did i buy a ticket?
