(thank you friends for all your beautiful thoughts and prayers for baby Andrea...she is doing better..)

That Miracle

I have been around this wonder
many times, thinking,
thinking of how fragile
a window life is and someone walking
across the glass of it
tip toes with velvet slippers
or stomps in boots that break
and cause stormy shards of glass,
and the sound is the same,
the tinkle of life
the soft muted step
that reflects the moon
and that is held by
so many sharp stones,
it is the same.

It seems that just a twist
this way wrong or that way right
would send it all
falling falling,
sliding into some deep abyss
where things go that try too hard,
or sailing across the sky
flung like a Frisbee
to fall again and bounce
maybe up against some wisdom
that has been sitting there in the grass
arms resting behind head
and just the trace of a smile
waiting.

While, a baby can be born,
it can be the size of a telephone
its heart beating like a frenzied
ticking clock
and to touch it softly enough
is impossible,
but touch is what it needs
and so we touch it with our big love
and send prayers for it
that echo all around the tiny incubator
that hums and breaths its necessary rhythm
and life just is,
it trembles so and sighs
and takes one more breath
and lives

and that, my friends,
that miracle just makes me smile.

In the dew of little things,
the heart finds its morning
and is refreshed.
(ee cummings)

I too am smiling my friend and doing so between tears of joy.  There are miracles in this world and the power of poets prayer I have no doubt have leant much to the birth of that miracle and that oh so precious breath.  A beautiful and tender piece from you.  You know we all love you my friend and especially this cowboy.

Martie~
Lovely thoughts ... I think you said just what I was thinking ... but more tenderly
than I could possibly express it.

The prayers continue, my friend.

Martie,

I've thought many times of the thin blanket of oxygen that sustains us all... We can't even climb to our tallest mountian without losing our breath. (Still wonder if you seen Michelle framed) I end up doing so much for RJ... I told her you were first on this one.

We love you Always. Dale

martie, this is perhaps one where the emotional content and the imperative of the message overshadows the poetic technique, which is nevertheless still pretty good.  i guess this is exactly how it should be in a piece like this - i'm glad to hear things are improving..

Martie, a miracle indeed, and this is such a beautiful poem. I am so glad the baby is getting better, but I won't stop our prayers just yet. It's become quite busy in our little hospital chapel, with people sending their prayers heavenward. The chapel is normally busy anyway, people giving thanks for all sorts of things. My team, are making sure that the candle never goes out, and that people can if they wish send their prayers. So until the baby is out of the special care baby unit, we will continue.
Take care of yourself too Martie. And this is a wonderful poem.
Sorry this is a bit long

I have started to reply twice to all your wonderful words, each individually..taken quite some time...and was almost through when my computer just knocked me off-line...

So...it must be a sign that I should write one great big thank you for all your beautiful thoughts and prayers and responses to this poem and to the baby Andrea...Her mother is having a hard time...not having her home...she would like to take the prayers that have gone out at Passions and hang them on the wall in Andrea's room...for comfort.  Now, I just need to get my printer working so I can print them all out for her.  I am also going to see if the moderators will let me post a picture of Andrea for you all to see.

Again, my thanks and hugs and love to you all!!  She continues to get better!!

Martie...this poem brought tears to my eyes. In my line of work I've seen many babies born the size of phones who hadn't the strength to take another breath and who's birth and death were intertwined. I am so glad to here that ANdrea is holding here own (girls are notorious for doing better than boys when born prematurely...they are better fighters for some reason) my prayers will continue.
Oh, I almost forget...excellent poem
