Long Ago Love

Ten years ago I was a different person.
A decade ago I had a different life.
Yet those years vanish in seconds
Every time we chance to meet.
Sometimes that long-ago life is hazy.
Is what we had real or only an illusion
Fueled by your youth and my memories?
Sometimes those long-ago days are vivid...
A sunset on the beach...
A dark rainy night at the park...
Your body so brown and smooth and bare...
Is it possible, I wonder,
To recapture a lost life, a lost love?
Or are my ties to the present
Stronger than those to the past?
Am I doomed to my obsessin
Watching you through misty eyes
Across crowded parking lots?
Will I ever again feel the touch of your hand
Or the press of your lips
The way I still feel them in my mind?
Do I want you for who you are today
Or the memory of how you made me feel then?
Ten years later I am a different person.
A decade later I have a different life.
But my oh-so-stubborn heart
Won't leave my memory alone.

hmmm a few can say "been there done that" Sometimes a ghost from the past, or first love needs to stay a sweet memory.
Well written and from the heart, I would say.

Sister, you have hit home right here. I loved a past love for many years, and thought he loved me too. We yearned for eachother. I went to him. And he changed his mind. The pain I have is more than I could have imagined. Be careful, and good luck. I know I have always had the thought of old loves, and often a little yearning. But this time it was big, and boy did it blow up in my face. Well, sorry, rambling here. I loved your poem. Hope you will read my story on here, and that it never happens like that for you.
Peace

Poet's Sister,
You are very welcome here at Passions. I can feel for you in many aspects. I lost a wonderful relationship once, unlike you though I have never seen her again. My heart goes to you. Well written.

Respond to my call and let the waves of my heart fill your life with the wonders of love

Daniel J D and Catalinamoon,
Do we really ever get over a lost love?  Believe it or not I have been happily married for 8 years now, but sometimes
"my oh-so-stubborn heart
Won't leave my memory alone."

Poet's Sister....I'm in awe at this piece of work. Oh how eloquently you've let us peak into the private recesses of your heart and oh how dramaticly you've captured that feeling of longing, that bit of regret and wondering about a past love. Yes, we do go on with our lives, but sometimes the past stays behind to taunt us with it's memory.
My applauds go out to you on this fantastic piece of work and if you're interested in publishing it, I just may know a few publushers to submit it to...I think you know my e-mail
