porox tell me ...

the marblelene feel of a softest nick
a snow-white glaze 'neath aged years
buried in detritus below stream's thick
edges chipped off a once proud brick
porox tell me, from where comes your tears

antiquity's guise of Roman decent(?)
or of foundry's floor upon a legion's walk(?)
perhaps adorned walls of heaven's sent(?)
if your voice to obey a covenant
tell me not without means to talk

yet your call booms 'cross times expanse
for me to hear your whisper's wet shout
as coldest of reaches brings pierce's lance
into my skin feels your imprint's chance
porox tell me or forever to doubt

the clues you leave gives me no recourse
i'll search the world to find your name
your birth from this earth's deepened source
i know the truth of man's cunning course
he made you porox, of marbled fame

just as some explanation:

for those of you who don't have a clue (as i didn't) as to what porox is, it's a manmade, marble-like substance that's used in foundries and grinding machine to line the mechanisms walls ... it's been used for centuries for making plates, bowls, dishes, etc. ... the work above is based upon a recent fishing trip on a beautiful clear-running stream adjacent to an old coal railroad bed, in which i found a porox brick dated the 5th of May, 1868 ... it looks like ancient Roman marble and has probably been in that stream for well over a century ... it is now a bookend for my collection of poetry books (it's heavy) ... thanks

Wonderful wording in this piece MA (though I'm glad you helped me with some description below, lol) I enjoyed the ponderings of it's origins ... nicely done!

Best wishes,
/Kit

Glad to hear someone else picks up rocks and decorates thier home with them  . This is splendidly done... delighted you were inspired to write about your find.
