I sit here out of Africa
Around me some are from America
Many more are from Australia
Few others are from Asia
And if look around some are from Europe

We came here some tied up by rope
Others unconcious from dope
You walk by, and you gaze at me
Your children are frigtened of me
I do not belong here
I want to go home

Some say it is best I stay here
Because there are not many of me left
What did I do to hurt you
For you to take me away from my home
Everyday, you bring food to me
I have to take it, because you
Will not release me to get my own

I am not like you
I do not dress up and have bills to pay
I do not waste the earth's resources
The way you have done
Since the Industrial Revolution.
I do not try to wage wars
I never left this earth
To get to Mars
I am of this earth and plains
I roamed just for survival

Why then have you locked me up
In Zoo's and laboratories
Let me go home to where I belong
You can still come and see me
I am better in the wild
Because I am free.

Oh Daniel ... you've touched my heart with this verse. How perfectly you penned this from their perspective. My heart bleeds when I see these creatures penned and caged outside of what should be their natural habitat, though there is such little of "that" left. It is a sorrowful picture of humanity indeed. Very well written!

Best wishes,
/Kit

To Kit, Marge and Irish Rose
Your words reflect the general view out there, let's hope that our children may find an alternative for these amazing creatures, away from these shocking viewing bays. And while we are able to voice our disgust as to the treatment these species endure, we have to be heard.

Daniel...you have written my very heart with this one...who are we to take and take and take...without giving anything back? We are such fools to think this earth isnt gonna have something to say sooner or later.

Paula,
You are so right. For millions of years the earth thrived, then in next to no time some 200 years ago we(I use this rather bluntly) began the process of decimating our own survival. We not only alter the composition of the Flora we also expose the Fauna to an uncompromising situation, putting ourselves first and foremost.

"Let me go home to where I belong

I support this all the way.. Wonderful write Daniel..    While beautiful and magnificent to look at, most animals belong out in their natural enivornments..Not locked behind a cage.

With a little piece of tomorrow,
You'll have to kiss yesterday goodbye.
Because today won't last forever,
And the past will only make you cry.

Broken_winged_angel,
How thoughtful of you. OH YES, they belong out there, free to roam, free to eat, free to multiply. Somehow, progress is saying no to their plight. Soon there may be no more to cage.

Snowpants,
We have to make the decision makers accountable for the recklessness of their policies. Thank you for the reply.
