I was a maggot
faced boy
the eyesore
on their prism prettiness.
That shallow gut
of rumbling vomit
and bellyache
from youthful digit
to trauma nursed
and tantrum burst
that was me.

I was the shadow's
only solace in quiet vacancy
read the signs "do not disturb"
the cocoon devours
ugly duckling vanishes and dies
butterfly oh butterfly
from weak worm
emerges
the Swan of Grandeur.
Little Narcissi
that was me.

I was the apple
of the eye a marvel
to the mirror,
in privacy naked shaking
and standing still, I erase the acne
and humorous disdain mock David
stealing his crown of perfection
"I am superior ancient statue,
never would I flaunt myself
in museum homage."
That was me.

I am beautiful, hush
It's my little secret, my pillow
in harshness and deformity of life.
In the dark without a spine
at least I have this body of mine.
Ugly labels hang from every
foul breath, all know self love
and its shallow regret.
Allow me this moment to bask in
my glory, to be God for a second
before venomous tongues humble me.

"an afixiation a fix on anything the line of life the limb of a tree
the hands of he and the promise that s/he is blessed among women".

This broke my heart, I know what it's like to live in the shadows, feeling ugly and "not good enough"
and you ARE...beautiful!

Stirring cries from a poet who has the emotion to fill the words with meaning.
You did that in spades
