as i lay upon her verdant bed ...

my touch upon her leaf's olived youth
so tenderness does reach an impressed stage
of aging's graceful longlived phase
my feel against a gingered sooth
reveals her delicate growing ways

a flower to hope comes of her lofty dreams
from seeds well sown before my novice time
of gardening's patient passioned rhymes
while a verse to cite barely seems
inadequate to frill her lines

as water feeds the food of greenest fruit
her soil delights in giving gifts so pure
as golden's sight of the sunlight stores
her life's stretching malachite shoots
towards bright sky of azure's tour

her crowning deed blooms velvet's fuchsine
upon the abundance of glen's wild spread
for my valiant tasks to secure her stead
she gives me a glimpse of heaven's cuisine
as i lay upon her verdant bed

My calling before me, let quill be my offering;
For to be called poet, no greater gift to receive.
