oh Cleona, of beauty's eyes ...

amongst grandeur’s oak and elm
surrounding golden shining maize
above valley's din-filled realm
Cleona calls its loyal band
to gather again in sheltered praise
on campmeeting's pastured land

the entrance to this holy plot
where darker forests never grew
glimpse of white sidings caught
as cabins row a circle's course
explorers all in God's canoe
bearing souls to a higher force

the inner path of circle's arc
as families gather greetings donned
turns a jubilant walk in the park
towards refreshment's cooling stand
where kinship's bond feeds upon
feasts made by heaven's hand

fellowship's woven fabric of souls
all other weave is weakened twill
congregation's parts made whole
convening 'neath emerald's canopy
yet no jewels compare until
heaven's gate we pray to see

young and old on common ground
years between swept so clean
together in word and song be found
to God's glory their voices rise
off white-washed walls they careen
of tabernacle's strength comprised

Cleona campmeeting now arise
your wooded path is clearly worn
but yet your grove still survives
upon the encroached sprawling cries
to return one day, i'll be reborn
oh Cleona, of beauty's eyes

Hi Paula ... thanks for reading (almost gave up hope there) ... yes indeed, this is a real place in Amish country towards Lebanon/Hershey Pennsylvania ... It's a church camp that my family has been attending in some form or another for well over 100 years ... it's in danger of being encroached upon by "civilization" ... thanks again.

MAMiller~
I was caught by the serenity of this phrase -

'young and old on common ground
years between swept so clean
together in word and song be found
to God's glory their voices rise
off white-washed walls they careen
of tabernacle's strength comprised'

How very lovely.
