The Hill

Green hill of wonder and maker of dreams
Carved from the waters of earth-given streams
Mound of enlightenment; mountain of sod
Dabbled with flowers by the finger of God

Sitting on hill against cloudy white sky
In stillness and silence to ponder the why
A silhouette threesome of carved ebony
A forest-green laurel, a maple, and me

A place of enchantment upon verdant crown
Above the soft meadowland, gazing around
A hawk’s view of lovely, a moon’s view of earth
God’s vista of spring time and valley’s sweet birth

‘Tis here that I come to see visions of life
And bathe laden mind of discomfort and strife
And listen to hymns from a small whippoorwill
Just me and two friends on an emerald-green hill

Elizabeth Santos

I was pleased with my "Meadow Musings' until I read:
"‘Tis here that I come to see visions of life
And bathe laden mind of discomfort and strife
And listen to hymns from a small whippoorwill
Just me and two friends on an emerald-green hill"
A humble bow - to a truly great poet

Elizabeth, The entire piece is a peaceful reward for the reader. The above mentioned line stands out in my mind.

I appreciate so much all of your responses to this poem. There's room for all of us on the imaginary hill, but what we all like is a place of tranquility, where we can ponder life or think about nothing at all.
Thank you all for your kind comments

A special hill indeed... You're right - Each of us can have our own - We just have to take the time to seek it out..

I really want to choose my words carefully here. Elizabeth, you first, have to understand that I connect with the need of, the beauty of, the wonder of solitude in every possible way. How many days have I walked out troubled to find my body splayed out in the grass beholding myself in the sky and watching cares and deliberation unravel? In my aloness I am healed, I am whole, I am myself again. So this narration of solitude and almost enchanted dwelling hits me not because I can relate, but because you have spun it so beautifully I MUST. I will read this again and again and again. Thank you.
