Hurricane Alley

First a quick note...I'm writing an article on the 'darker side' of online romance/meeting/relationships. Now, I know first hand the 'up' side...my son met his wife in a chat room and they are happily married (never fight!). But there are people out there that take advantage of lonely people. That's what I'm writing about.

Here is the link to the thread in the Alley, if you'd like to read and reply (or you can send any comments to me in private at my email address):

/pip/Forum6/HTML/000340.html

Here's one poem I wrote about this kind of relationship:

My heart soars without hearing your voice
I try holding back, but have no choice
You won my soul with a passion's flame
Because of you, I'll never be the same

I smile as you approve my verse
Deeper I sink into Cupid’s curse
And though you think my words a game
I continue to write them just the same.

Gently chiding you beckon me
ICQ messages set words free
Fingers that dare to say the word
The only one you've not yet heard

Silence speaks a world of feeling
Cursor blinks as my head is reeling
Thoughts and words I’ll not repent
This is love on the Internet

And something a bit different:

Alone,
I lay in our bed each night
hearing the click
of the keys you hit
knowing you found
a fantasy love
someone who ‘understands you’.
I try to be what you want
what you need
but she seems to fulfill
your dreams
you never see her
disheveled or tired
never see her press your clothes
never see her pick up your socks
never see her sweaty from yard work
never see her chase the kids around
never see her at all
she never asks you to clean the pool
she never asks for food money
she never tells you your mother called
she never tells you the phone bill is too high
she never asks if your dinner is ok
she never asks to go out to a movie
she never asks to do anything
but just sits there waiting on line
so if she is your true love
I think you should find her
just leave
go on
get out
so I can find my own reality.

A toss of the coin and it can become to REAL too quickly if not seen for what it is.  The sad part is as you say....when one is not as serious as the other and gets trampled on.  IF you are going to play then you need to really know and live the rules.  Strong points of message from you.  Glad you put it up and I will be visiting the alley later....ohhh and yes....I did as you asked..thank you.

Great pieces Sharon...

Agreeing with Mark here.
You certainly have to know what you are in for. - And that's the great problem isn't it?
Sometimes you just can't

Sharon these are great!
the first one is so beautiful and then when you read the second one, although beautiful
it is so sad, makes you think.
Great Job on both

I was going to tell you to go to sleep... but when looking at the clock, I didn't know what time it was. It seems I'm always behind the times... darn it.

Indeed - Both are true excerpts from the grand scale of life's relationships... You've depicted them well, my friend... as you invariably do..

Yes!  I like this!  Views from both sides of the coin.  Anyone who has spent considerable time online has at least flirted with the temptation if not given into it.  It can be dangerous, and heartbreaking.

Sharon this is some great work here! That second one hits strongly! Strongly stated, and so true to life. You've portrayed both of them in great light.

PDV- I met whom I know and believe whole heartidly to be my soulmate, on the internet only 4 months ago...
Because of this, these poems touch me deeply; especially the first one...

Both poems are lovely...  Yet another example of your briliant writing.

ms. goddess devine...!!

While I'm happy over your son's successful online/real life relationship for you and him and her..

I can't help but be concerned about the comment 'never fight'

where there is passion there will be 'fights' and it's important for couples to learn how -- lol... they probably fight -- but they're just good at making up and not airing it out in front of you...

never fighting just means -- not caring -- and.. too many of us have been there..

I too know of many cases of happiness found on the internet.  I also know of people that were severely hurt.  You have told of life's wisdom in the two writings.  I enjoy your work.

Sharon... I look forward to your article...
you know how I feel...you've had to help me
delete posts due to a stalker...
the problem comes in when someone gets too comfortable in the fact that the internet allows them anononymity ..
SOME people just can not act with respect and responsiblity ...
when they have the mask of being invisable...
the idea in ther mind that they cant be held
accountble for their actions...
well... they think the internet is open season for them to spread their misery.

both your poems are great examples..
and your second one is a view we dont often
see or think about...
there are MANY sides to this story..
again.. I look forward to your article.
take care

PS...
thank you again for your help.. and concern and Ron too.

Sharon-
Both of these are very well done.
You've done an excellent job of
   portraying these two very different
   points of view.  Definitely food
for thought. Thanks for sharing these.

Sharon, I think I must be more cautious than others because I've only been in a chat room once. Didn't like it at all, best way I can describe it was saying hello about a million times. Definitely not for me, far too superficial, what sort of relationship can grow like that. I don't deal in lies or cheating, so because I'm always honest I expect others to be honest to me. Long distance relationships can work, but it has to be based on the real person. Sorry I've rambled a bit.

But I enjoyed both these poems, because they are written well and beautifully expressed.
Take care

Several times I came inhere, doubing if I should tell my experience with this item.

wrote a poem for one of my chatfriends,
she was a victim of netlove, met him in real, and had a rough time. I will post it in a few minutes. name "letter to Silvie".

Once I was to curious and I entered a adult chatroom, watching the room. and I saw that the most people only wanted friendship.
and I made a lot of friends there.

Most of my friends are searching for friendship in the first place, yes there are lot of people who don't search for that, but where I like to chat is friendship very important, and some of them end up in a wedding.

and some of them end with broken hearts.
and than is friendship very important, than you see how the people around are treating you, and take care about you.

I have seen a lot, have many friends and had loss my heart once, and yes I had a broken heart. Now I only chat with friends, have learned my lesson.

ok,now I'll take a deep breathe and push on the submit reply.

This brings to mind the incident that happened in my town a few years ago. I man
(Manager of a local Burger King) found out his wife had an on line relationship and came home one night a murdered her (details too graphic to tell). I could never see the point to chat rooms. I'll just stick with my friends on passions. At least we're all sane
Both poems were interesting and well written. A very timely subject. Am anxious to read your Alley post

Yes, this is very informative, and it really all boils down to trust.  Any form of communication and reaching out has it's dangers, even people who are introduced by a friend can turn out to be someone who can hurt, and I've experienced this firsthand.
But if you stop reaching out, then everyone becomes a potential danger, and you might miss a measure of happiness and end up alone, with no one to talk with and that's sad.  A person has to be careful.
