To Rodger...thank you for giving me my wings and the courage to use them
~Always,
Ruth

The Transformation

I crawled to you
defeated,
weakened,
a shell
empty
and cast aside.

You saw beauty
where I saw scars;
offered solace
when I needed it most;
and sheltered me
in the midst of life’s storms.

I clung to your branches
fearing the fall.
I drank from your nectar
thirsting for life.
I hungered for tranquillity
and fed on your touch.

Unperceivable,
the changes came
'till I emerged
from the cocoon
of your arms
spreading delicate wings
to fly.
The transformation complete,
I was reborn
in the beauty of love.

What lies behind us and lies before us are small matters compaired to what lies within us.
~Ralph Waldo Emerson
