she married her Prince Charming
          or so she thought
turns out that life as the Princess
wasn't all it was cracked up to be
sure,
she got to live in the castle
             but it was his castle
and while the Prince was off fighting battles with the Knights
     or rescuing other princesses
the Princess only had the mice to keep her company
this was her life
        her lonely life

she still dreamed that one day
          he would come
to take her away from this
to share a castle with her
to rescue her instead of rescuing others
so that she could sing again
he knew that she had a wonderful voice
               or rather, he would
for she would sing for him day and night
yet not for him
        but because of him
and while the mice weren't bad company
they couldn't hold her during the nights
of this, her life
        her lonely life

so, she left
and while she would miss the mice
she hoped that they would understand
understand that she needed to do this
if only for her own sanity
and in doing so,
                 she broke the rules
     then came the trial,
                             the fear,
                                         the loss
the time that she felt it was just her against the world
                              alone
along the way, she met a poet, a bard
one that helped her learn to sing again
she spent almost a year with him
               learning,
                         growing,
                                  changing
and now
         she's on her own
a Princess without a castle
        a story without an end
her travels take her to many places
the bard weeps for her
        she does not know why
she still roams
               looking for that Prince
not knowing that she needs not another Prince
but that bard. . . who would be King
to save her life
            her lonely life

Sven~
Now this dear Sir...I really liked. I always love how your poetry stands to teach us all some lesson or tell a story. Love the moral in this one. Excellent writing!
Take care.

Oh my sweet Prince I have found
Though his castle I will never share
Off in the distance I watch him
Loving him more, leaving me in despair

Sven, this is a tale to be heard my friend.
I enjoyed this bitter sweet piece.

If the princess feels as if she can only be fulfilled thru the prince and the prince can only be fulfilled by rescuing all the other damsels in distress the bard begins to look like a wise choice instead of a lonely life with the prince...but alas if she cannot clearly see this perhaps she will waste her life away but the poet must go on and find love with another who will appreciate him and his talents...yes...James

mmm..love the poem, and it make me think either....always want a prince on the white horse, not seeing the one who is around.

still thinking on it....

Well written, Sven, with a lot of longing.  I hope there's a happy ending to this someday.

this is a truly sad fairy tale, but Sven I can see the princess just needed her prince who is so busy saving the world that he forgets the one he truly loves his princess, I guess to often in real life this happens to until all the sudden your in this place.
I absolutely loved the style of this poem so gallant and lovely.
