In memory of my father
Killed 8th October 1986

Death of a Bushman

Skin pasty white and blackened hair
A bushman's smile, he has no care
He lays there now, still and quiet
Even in death, a powerful sight

Remembered now that fateful day
Bushman sets out to earn some pay
Another crisp, cool mountain morn'
Wife never thought she'd be so forlorn

Went in search of bushman's pride
Crushed to death, alone he died
Straight and tall, that mountain gum
Came crashing down, nowhere to run

He was carried down from that hill
All bruised and battered, our man Bill
They followed him in silent procession
Yet through the gloom, the sun it shone

Past that home he'd built by hand
One last journey through mountain land
An eerie silence, not a sound was heard
Stricken with grief it seemed so absurd

Lay to rest with reverence and grace
Spirit now freed to wander this place
Looking down over those mountain gums
Basked in the glory of the setting sun

The Son he'll go and sit a while
Now and then even find a smile
Talk of life and love, and often cry
And as darkness falls, one more goodbye!

Eddie~
Know that I think of you in this time of your sweet remembrance ...

'The Son he'll go and sit a while
Now and then even find a smile
Talk of life and love, and often cry
And as darkness falls, one more goodbye!'

A spirit of great magnitude reaches us through our memories.

Denise......How can we ever say goodbye to a part of us. Thankyou for stopping by and adding your comments.

Poet deVine.....Thankyou, he was a wondeful person.

Janet.....He died in his place doing what he loved. I think if he had a choice he may have chosen it that way. He is with me, each and every day. And yes, it still feels like it was just yesterday, thankyou for stopping in.

Marge....Thanks for your thoughts, they are very much appreciated. I know that he walks with me always.

Eagle*
I've been trying to come up with a poetic
response to this but that is evading
me...But I wanted you to know how sorry I am
for the loss of your father, your poem shows
the love you held for him and still hold.  I
have no doubt that he is looking down on you
and your family and is proud of the man you
are and the father you have become.
Beautiful heart written poetry does not lie
my friend....especially when it is written
by a poet...from the soul as this was~

a beautiful tribute to your father,
even when its a while ago,
and time will health the wounds,
but some feelings will be always the same,
can flashing up like yesterday,
and remain you on the loss of your father.

((hugs))

Eddie,

Across the miles and over the ocean, my heart goes out to you my friend.  I know the pain of losing one you love very much and the lonliness it can bring.  Wonderful tribute.  I just hope he did not have to suffer.  Very heartfelt sentiments here.  My prayers are with you.
