In Darkness

I had a dream the other night
That fate would have me loose my sight
A wrenching pain I soon would find
Consumed my heart, for I was blind

In utter fear and sore distress
I had no hope for happiness
Closed for good the door of light
I’d live my life in dark of night

I’d never witness sunset’s glow
Nor would I ever see or know
The beauty of a newborn child
The meadow flowers growing wild

The grass! the trees! the stars at night!
Erased forever by this plight!
And lovely children, what of them?
To never see their face again!

To never look within your eyes
And see the charm that therein lies
Nor see again a smiling face
That just a glance can well embrace

And as my mind these visions viewed
So clearly filtered and construed
I soon began to realize
The wealth engraved within my eyes

I kept the best in memory’s mind
And left the worst of life behind
Without my eyes to see the whole
I saw the beauty of the soul

And though I never again would see
My soul had won a victory
For now God’s plan came into light
And pierced the darkness of the night

As I knelt down to say a prayer
A light appeared and settled there
I opened up my eyes and saw
I wasn’t even blind at all

I had awoken from a dream
So real and true the vision seemed
That looking at myself I’d find
That I had always been quite blind

And only in the darkness saw
The love and beauty of it all
In dark of night in dream’s disguise
God opened up the sightless eyes

That now I see each person’s worth
The need to love each one on earth
The strength of mind, the heart’s display
The glory of each living day

And so the visions fill my mind
Of things unseen by those not blind

its kissed with your gentle spirit and
poetic innocence ...
your gift of grace ...

Kit, That proves how blind I am, for until this post, I never realized I was even near 5000. I never look at the numbers. Thank you for your very dear comments and for your post in announcements
