Precious Moments

When petals of the rosebud open
That’s the time of greatest worth
What is life’s most splendid hour
If not the moment of our birth

Treasured memories never fade
Filled with love and all that’s good
What are times that we most cherish
If not those of childhood

What are  most exquisite moments
Blessed by stars in heaven’s sky
If not in passion’s sweet discovery
Etched forever in the eye

We recall the best of times
When our children were still small
Happy times through life’s cruel struggles
Looking back, the best of all

What are life’s most gracious moments
Mellowed by the time we’ve lived
If not the golden years where life
Has passed on through the spirit’s sieve

What is life’s most tranquil scene
The certain hour of sweetest breath
Veiled in all that’s came before
It is the hour of peaceful death

And now forgotten is your life
But you have left a gift of worth
The heritage of family
Reborn into the next of birth

Petals strewn across the grave
In reverence and in love within
Represent the gifts you’ve given
And passed along to next of kin

And so you’ve left upon the earth
A rosebud that will bloom at birth

What greater gift can we give than the legacy of our heritage... Our children will cherish it forever... Lovely, my friend..

Elizabeth,

It is amazing what we leave behind isn't it?  Those that came before left us a legacy
and we pick up where they left off continuing the legacy . . . to pass it on to our children and all those who come after we are gone.  This was a great look at the circle of life and the effect we have on future generations.  Wonderful writing.
