Two Things I Must Have

for my soul and serenity
there are two things I
must have, one for
sight
one for
sound…

I keep these things hanging around

for my sight
I washed my windows today
O I could still see through them
but they impeded the light
from crystals that hang
on the windowpane
and I needed their
rainbow dance
to brighten
my spirit
so I stood on my small stepstool
and washed them first
inside ~ then ~ out
and re-hung the crystals so that
I might smile back at them
and dance with their
light

I like to keep them bright

for my sound
in front and back yards
and with varying degrees
of clarity, no clang
but tonal quality
deep and sonorous
and its opposite
brilliant and light
I have replaced the tethers
and re-hung
my small and large chimes,
which sound best
at night

and they keep me all right

for I would have
crystalline eyes
and a chiming heart
to last me through my days

One thing I must have
For hearing, for seeing,
For touching, tasting,
Smelling, for being.
For satisfaction
In my very soul
It breathes life in me
And makes me whole.
Without this thing
My world is shattered.
What is this treasure?
Knowing I matter. *S*

I love your poem, Sunshine... forgive the nonsense it inspired. *S*

You have inspired me to go wash the windows on my truck now so that I may see as you do.  Wonderful write my friend.

Mark, if I got you to do something positive [although I wouldn't have expected washing truck windows would have been it...] then I did something right today!  Thanks for reading...< !signature-->

Karilea--I too love crystals and chimes, but one thing I don't love, and that's washing windows...but I like seeing through yours!

TA, thank you!

Martie...I'm giggling right along with you...I only do 'em when the crystals get cloudy...then they get a good bath as well!

Doreen, you make it a very special response when you pick a line you like, thank you!
