The doctor came with pen in hand
‘What’s the problem with you miss?
Tell me where it hurts, please
just tell me what’s amiss”

“I see no blood upon your head
feel no fever on your brow
you must tell me what is wrong
so I can help you now"

"Go away!" I cried out
"You can’t cure what’s ailing me
It isn’t something you can touch
nor something you can see"

I placed my hand upon my breast
to continue my explanation
Words and tears spilled together
as I began my recitation

"The pain I feel is somewhere here
between my heart and head
Burning with a fever like
a hot poker, glowing red

I feel as though I’m rent in two
the pain will not subside
Caused in part by selfishness
and cruelty and pride"

“I placed my hand upon his cheek
and turned him away from me
thinking that I really wanted
to be alone and free”

So my head thinks my heart committed
the crime of the century
but my heart knows it was my head
that did this thing to me

With wisdom rare the doctor said
“You should call him on the phone
tell him that you were a fool
to think you wanted to be alone”

A week passed then I called to explain
what the doctor prescribed for me
But she answered the phone for you
Now I know it’s not meant to be

So, remember this my fine friends
Take your medicine right away
don’t wait to heal the heartaches
until another day.

It's soooo good to hear that they have medicine for heartache now... I wonder if there's an over-the-counter equivalent... Nice job, PdV..

Somewhere between "He who hesitates is lost" and "Look before you leap' is the right time  -perhaps - but many might say it wasn't meant to be - bottom line: "pick yourself up, dust yourself off - and start all over again" (old lyric - but still good advice I think)
Oh - and did I say - "great poem"? - It is!

This was awesome.
I needed to be diagnosed and treated a long time ago.  If a prescription would have taken the hurt away and been as simple as a call, I probably would have overdosed.
I had to read it again because it was
SOOOoooo Gooooodddd.

Thank you all for your kind words. I've had a bad summer 'writers block' wise and this is one of my attempts to get back on track. Hopefully I can keep it up. Though I don't think I'll reach the level of being able to post two or three a day! I hope to post one a week if my muse will stay put (that velcro should hold for a bit!)

Oh, PdV....
This is excellent, and if your muse keeps this up....one a day would be wonderful to see, at least from my eyes!

Ah, what a true statement. I have the same ailment, and I wish the doctor could cure it. Mine came from going ahead and giving my all, and getting slapped in the face for it.
Sigh..
But all heart pains hurt, don't they, whoever instigated them?
Sorry to hear another story of love that did not achieve its possibilities.
Take care.

this was a very good poem, you really should have had a house call though maybe quicker diagnosis! seriously though he didn't deserve to be had after all he was quite a cad that you were better off without.

Hi Miss. deVine,

Lessons  from the heart weighty but full of wisdom, my dear your poetry may of flowed slowly from your pen, but every piece is rememberable and so much worth the wait, awesomely done Sharon.

Love, Cerenity
