How often have you said......

I can quit my writing anytime I want to...
I can turn off all the words here in my head...
I can stop the way my pen slides over my paper...
I can do these things and more, before I’m dead...

I’ve spent my life denying my ‘affliction’...
While wondering why my life is so absurd!
While everybody else just hears the melody...
I find myself just listening to the words...

I won’t admit to being any different...
From any other person you can see...
But give a poet pens and stacks of paper...
Then ‘different’ thoughts become ‘reality’...

A poet’s eyes take in the world around her...
Not satisfied to see, then walk away...
Her body hangs around a little longer...
So her heart can pen the words she needs to say...

Though some of us are put down by our families...
Our writing then becomes a secret vice...
There within our walls we steal some moments...
Not caring, if found out, how high the price...

No...
I can’t quit my writing any time I want to...
I’ll never clear the words out of my head...
I’m hoping some of what I write lives on forever...
To be enjoyed long after I am dead!

Today is a gift....
That is why they call it
'the Present'!

Yeah right.....me either.....LOL....love the graphic but the poem itself says so much and I couldn't even if I wanted to.  Glad to know that I am not the only one but of course it is easy to tell who all fits in this one.  Great piece to walk into my friend.

Sunny love, and we don't want  you to quit kid. Why deny us the pure pleasure we get from your work. Actually you're  not the only one who can't quit. I'm just got up to get a drink and I just had to log on.
So if this is badly spelt and out of alignment you know why.
Take care

Lovely poem kid as all your are.

Hi jinxed....(not meant to be a pun!!)
Well, my friend, I'm glad you liked this one.  Poets usually tend to go in spurts, so never fear....the words will come magically bouncing back into your head, and you will write again!!  A poet is a poet forever.....we just can't help ourselves!!

Sunny...this was greatly written.  I, too, have spells that I just want to quit writing poetry, but this is what keeps me going in the day to day.  I always feel better after putting my feeling on paper.

Sunny, that was just awesome!! You said it better than I ever, ever could. There are so many lines in that poem that really got me, you said it all. You found the words I surely couldn't.

Sunny-girl

I'm in agreement with you on a lot of your points, especially the lyrics vs music point.  I guess that's why I enjoy C/W music - lots of plays on words.  I also enjoy Billy Joel - what a terrific lyricist.

As for you quitting - yeah, right.  You can't stop something as powerful as this, even with all the "help" you've been getting.

ahhh..the 13th is a lucky full moon, therefore your trip shall end with best things happening!!   Have Fun!!

Susan....
yes...writing is like therapy for the soul!  If only everyone would sit and contemplate on life and then write...the world would be a much nicer place!! Thanks!!

Saunni...
And I have said the same exact thing about your poems.....how beautifully they flow, and how the thoughts are perfect in fit and meaning!  It seems to be a common thing for poets to admire and respect each other's work, more so than any other field of art!     Thank you, my friend!!

Hi LJA....
Yes.....Billy Joel is an excellent lyricist. So is Justin Hayward of the Moody Blues, Dylan, Neil Young, Van Morrison, and there's a host of new songwriters out there just knockin' 'em dead!!  I must admit I prefer the older country, like Willie, George and Merle.
and Yes....you're right.....I can't stop something that is powerful enough to push it's way out of my head, into my hand and through my pen!!  Too much!!
            Thank you, pirate!!
