I tried to live a fantasy.
My mind roved wild and free.
I found those lies were quick to bind,
Like prison bars you see?

The world I love has long since flown…
Those days are gone forever…
To pursue dreams one can’t attain-
I fear is not so clever.

When youth is gone, accept it…
And responsibility.
It’s only after duty’s done,
A man is really free.

Be yourself, and stand up tall-
Accept reality-
For life is what it is, my friend.
Not what it ought to be.

very good and very true keep up the good work ~Angie

Don't fear failure so
much that you refuse to
try new things. The

life contains three
descriptions:
could have,
might have,
and should have.

Hey GS! Excellent verse as always!

Be yourself, and stand up tall-
Accept reality-
For life is what it is, my friend.
Not what it ought to be.

I agree with this in part.  Life is what it is, but it can be what we want it to be as well! When we set goals too high they are hard to attain, so maybe lower them a bit.

Life can be what we make it!
I so love your verse GS!

Excellent message and poem, John. Life is seldom what we think it ought to be. It truly is what it is. Well done!

Excellent work GS, But life ought to include more that joy through duty.

but it is the loss that shapes the image,
gathers the flowers weaves the garland."-
