The Expanding Universe

When a speeding car
Honks its horn
And its pitch changes
In your ear
Physicists tell us
It's the Doppler effect
From the change in frequency
They can tell
If it's coming or going

The frequency of the light we see
Looking at galaxies
In similar fashion
Tells them the stars are moving away
Our Universe is expanding

These same physicists
Projecting back in time
Conclude
There may well have been a big 'bang'
Eons ago
That sent these galaxies
Flying away
From a central point
Like a giant aerial firework
Over the park
On the Fourth of July

Hand in hand
Ever since our 'big bang'
We too have been
Expanding
At some future time
I can imagine us
Snuggled together
Looking down
On the universe
Musing on the antics
Of the mere mortals,
Planets and stars

~You have to have a dream so you can get up in the morning.

What a ponderous piece, Wilfred...and funny, how with all the bemoaning machinations of life, it just DO go on...amazing, really.

Thanks for the think Piece.  I enjoyed it much...

I have to chuckle at the horn part. Whether it's coming or going, I know not, but it scares the heck out of me every time! LOL (makes that ol heart of mine race)

Expanding our minds as well Wilfred! You've done that to mine

If you don't mind, I just couldn't resist, when I read this, this one liner I have came to mind.

Big Bang Theory---God spoke and "BANG!"
It happened--

<*\\\><

I know not what the future holds,
but I know Who holds the future.

Hi Bill--This poem is so interesting...I like the way you took science to the human factor in the end with the relationship....and a heavenly one, at that.  Very nicely done!

Serenity-

You're welcome - and THANK YOU!

Nan-
What did Pogo say? I think it was: "We have met the enemy and he is us."
(The fate of the universe sometimes scares me)  Thanks ~G~

WhtDove-
Yeah - gets me wondering how long the other 5 days were ~G~ you know I believe  but taking too much of Genesis too literally - scares me at times I've a story abot the creation of Eve and Adam that will make you chuckle

Martie -

you seem to know where I'm going every time like you read my mind! Thank you~S~

Dori -

An accolade like yours from YOU comes as the highest praise I can concieve here - thank you so much.
