          Purple Days to Come

I am going to grow old
          gracefully
          and revel in quiet
          and peace
          and books
          and leaf
          through the passages
          one by one by one

          and I shall wear purple
socks and hats and gloves and lingerie robes
          perhaps not all at once
          but to amuse grandchildren
          maybe I will

          yes I will wear purple
          and have white hair
          and wear my glasses
          while sipping tea
          and there shall
          be wine at the
          required time, half past today

          when this time comes
          as it must and shall
          I will leaf
          the pages of friends
          once well met
          in blue walls of passion

          some will have gone away
          some will have stayed
          in the pages I leaf
          friends well met
          never to forget

          and I shall see you
          all in purpleís haze
          even on the sunniest days
                   ~ ~ ~
          in the spiritís realm
          in sonnets sung
          at Capínís helm
          on Cape Codís bay

          Seattle shall call
          the Floridian skies
          to meld upon pages
          before my eyes,

          Texas troubadours
          too shall meet
          balladeers shall sing
          looking suthern in memíry
          and devinely
          hear the call
          of an Aussie sweet

          and in the cold
          of northern clime
          Iíll find sweet poetís
          rhyme of days of
          yore
          forevermore

          here, held
          in my hands
          veined in purple
          to match
          the rest of me

          and forever shall
          painters of prose
          permit
          purple to hold
          sunshineÖ.

Karilea - great workings on the references, and I am truly honored (I think) to be included.  As for you wearing purple, yanno, you can get your hair dyed that color, too!

Abra, thank you...it likes me too...

LJA, that's a little out of my league, purple hair...I'll stay with white, thank you...[oh who knows, I may Loreal it forever....]

Hey where are the cowboys in this one.  I guess I will have to settle for being a Texas troubadour then.  Great piece and thank you for saying thanks to all those that thank us for saying thanks to them.

Sunshine, if the balladeer you hear singing is this one, you'll have a real reason to turn purple!

It's a wonderful poem, though, and I'm honord to be a part of it. Thank you...

Saving purple for later years reminds me of one of my favorite poems "Warning"... This is great, Sunshine!
