Vidalia
~
/
A thin
layer  of
skin  wraps  and
warps  around  thee
hiding  so  many  other
layers  of  sweet,  sweet  taste
O  Vidalia,  sweet  song  of  taste  in
layer  upon  layer  of  opaque  design  by
His  own  hand,  forever  command  all  taste
buds  this  luscious,  delicious,  delightful  delicacy
Georgian  luxuries  cannot  compete  the  love  complete
betwixt  mouth  and  sweetest  onion’s  skin,  a  devilment
of  joy  itself,  complete  union  with  onion’s  ting  and  bite
so raw  and  sugared  just  so,  wrapped  with  butter  and
bread  ah sweeter  still  when  whitest  flesh  hits  the  heat
all  sugars  come to  the  forefront  and  luscious  luscious
luscious  thrills  of  magic  bulbous  satisfaction  in  each
face  a  reaction  to  heaven’s gift,  of  you  O  lovely,
lovely,  sweet  Vidalia  we  are  yet  so  glad
heaven  made  ya.

Hey this reminds me of a country song that is on the charts NOW!!!!!  I thought that they were singing of the onion and the town but NOW I know they are singing of DOREEN!!!!!!!   Wow, a better poet to sing about there could not be.  You made even the thought of her words taste delicioius.  Well penned and such a lovely tribute.

Karilea - You have defined Doreen perfectly - so many layers, and each a delight, but all of them enough to make a grown man cry.  And don't EVEN get me started on the part about peeling them off one by one.  I'm just a weak man, yanno!

Excellent. . . I always knew that Doreen was a multi-faceted, multi-layered person. . . but an onion??

This is great Sunshine. . .

hey karilea!!! i peeled the layers down on this one and it brought tears to my eyes...

lovely writing, my dear friend... how in the heck can you all make all these graphic designs with poetry??? i need quark express, photoshop and illustrator... LOL... and my PowerMac - G4 me? hehe

this is great, really really special and the comments were too much because you were talking about an onion and layering really great images... for all those who responded thinking i'm an onion, i say this... i CAN bring tears to your eyes so don't slice too deep... *wink*

nice job, sunshinyone... thank you and oh... btw, i wrote a poem called "layers" also about peeling an onion... and when i find it, i'll drop by here and post the thread... i think they may be companion poems of a sort

luvya!

Oh, Sunshine, you have outdone yourself here. The poem is beautifully done, well-constructed and a fine tribute to one of the most gifted poets, not to mention nicest people, I have had the privelege to know. Applause here, Karilea!

LJA, so nice to know how you feel...

Sven, we can all come in many forms...

doreen, "companion" poems - yes - to be lined up under you, beside you...that is the truest compliment I could ever have, so my thanks go to you for inspiring me all along!

'Deer, I am curtseying - deeply...thank you...

hey denise, thanks for coming in!  Miss your face!

Marge, our spirits do tend to sometimes reside in mysterious places...

thanks everyone...
