Now I never should have left you there
Alone in that life with all its cares
How could I say come go with me
Lets let our love set us free
When they need you
As much as I do
In different ways
There everyday
Now Im sitting on the edge of goodbye

You've shut me out without a word
That slamming door is all I heard
And now all the should have beens
The maybes and the could have beens
Are lying in a broken dream
Without a chance it would seem
I just dont understand
Please take my hand
And bring me back from the edge of goodbye

How can I just let you be
When you are the whole world to me
You're hurt I know thats so
But it wasnt me who let you go
Im standing here love in hand
I offer it its all I can
I promised it forevermore
Until that day and not before
Lets turn away from the edge of goodbye

Dont throw away our starbright dream
Because of misspoke words and thoughts unseen
Ask me what I really meant
If what you heard was the message I sent
Dont run from love its such a gift
Let faith be there and say what if
Is life better without you there
Please let me show you that I care
Dont let this be the edge of goodbye

Tis a dangerous edge indeed and one hard to come back from.  I hope he listens to you and is not as stubborn as some cowboys I know.  You pour your heart out here and that is evident in each and every word.

Wow paula! The title is perfect and you express the pain so well here. It is so very hard when you're standing there on the edge, heart in hand, and it just doesn't seem to.......well you've already said it better than  I could! Great writing!

Paula - this is so sad...

a lot of strength comes through in your writing amid the sadness though.

Paula,
Oh my God, I'm almost crying right now. Your words so perfectly capture the fear of losing a love that you know your heart can't live without. And "the edge of goodbye" is such a powerful phrase. I'm going through a difficult time with a relationship right now and I am so afraid of losing her. Your words pack a potent punch and describe exactly what I am going through. I hope whoever he is reads this and gives your love the chance it so richly deserves. Thanks for a very well written and emotionally satisfying read.

Paula,

It's NEVER too late.  This is excellent, because as long as we are on the edge, we're still standing.

Paula,
Looking through some of your poems I was taken by this particular one. Well done, giving up is hard to do, saying goodbye is never easy, when it could mean forever. Loved every word. At your best.

Respond to my call and let the waves of my heart fill your life with the wonders of love

its hard to be on the edge of a goodbye, but true love can be strong enough, to take you away from it.......hope that he will see how deep your love is for him. Hope that both of you can work it out...wish you strength.
