Take the time and consider...

Everyone at one point
Was new within this place
We might have known a name
But not each others face

Just think of how you felt
When you had made a post
And it went unnoticed
And did the Passionate coast

It quickly took a dive
With zero replies
And plummeted the page
All to your surprise

So just take a moment
To think how others feel
Post a little comment
And give em some appeal

No reason for a post
To go without reply
Really hurts your feelings
Leaves you wanting to cry

Take a moment of time
Show consideration
Take a moment to read
A poets new creation

I've seen so many say
How welcome they did feel
It's all because we took the time
To say WELCOME a great deal!

I would really like to see everyone open up a poet they haven't read before. Take the time to welcome them to the Forums. Too many posts are going on the back pages, with VERY little to NO replies at all. With as many poets as we have here, there really is no reason for this.
This really is not fair to the other poets.
So think about it, if this was you, how you would feel if your poem was the one taking the dive?

Rebecca - very good point to be made here - I know I don't always have the time to post an encouraging word, but I will try to be better.  Good poem, incidently.

You're so right, it's a very good point. I will try to respond to poets that I've not read before. This by the way is an excellant poem, thanks for giving me a nudge. Take care

Y'know...I should have posted this in the "what I like about YOU" thread---but I do remember a time, not so long ago, on a very depressed night when I kept posting one depressing poem after another (WHO ME?)  And I also remember ONE VERY PERSISTANT WHITE DOVE, chirping, behind each and every post, and this little bird did not give up until she made me smile.....that's what I like about you, 'becca...((((((hugs))))))

You are truly "God's Cheerleader."

AND IT'S GENUINE.

Hi WHd.......it's a good point you make here........I hang out mostly at the pub.....and sometimes try out the open forum......but things move so fast there that poems dissapear quickly...may be NEWBIES as Devine calls them should be encouraged to post in say the pub first where people get more time to respond because there are fewer posts......and then when the've got confidence move on over.

Open can be a pretty daunting place and your right no or few responses can dent your ego a bit.

Just a thought....I'll try more thanx for the nudge.

I'm SO glad I'm not a POET. *G* I'd hate to have to feel guilty for checking out my favorites first and HOPING I have time left over to read more before the librarian kicks me out or my boss kicks my backside. *G* But since this was addressed to POETS, this suthern belle can just keep sashaying on. *G*

Seriously, I once tried very hard to welcome all newbies... but then I was on all day, every day then and work only interrupted every now and then *S*. Now most of my posting is done from a dinosaur where I can't see the opening folder and don't know if it's a first post or a 200th... (I was gone a while and thought Kit was a newbie - wrong! *S*)

I remember being new... and I remember posting poems that got 2 replies. I also remember replying and replying and replying. And I'll confess that it really gets my goat (borrowed from LJA's herd *G*) when I DO get the chance to experience a new poet and find whining and complaining about the popularity of others. I realize the intro pages refer to the forums as instant gratification, but they really don't offer that. The people who garner numerous responses regularly are those who've built a reputation one poem and one response at a time. I don't think Shakespeare himself would have much luck if he came in and posted a gem and then sat back to wait for the applause. Of course it's hard to wait... but the time waiting for someone to reply to your poems lessens dramatically if you start replying to others and you also develop an audience who thinks of you as something other than a catchy title or an interesting name.

So... I do like your poem... and I apologize for the long-winded reply. On second thought... now I can blame you for not having much time left online today... it's all your fault I'm not responding to every poet! *G*

Whtdove,
I like you poem and I agree with your sentiments, but it is difficult to balance the needs of others with the reason why I'm here at passions.
When I fist came to passions I posted in Dark which was a much smaller forum. Here on open the poems do go by so fast and I have seen poems I wanted to read but haven't had the time. Plus there are so many good poets here, you ARE going to read the established ones because you know what they can offer you.

I think this should be a discussion for philosophy 101.

Good job Rebecca! Of course another way to make sure your poem is read by MILLIONS (and I do mean that!) is to post it on the main site. Ron will be doing an update soon so now is the time to do it!

LOL, I thought I was mostly ignored when I came here many moons ago...as my poetry was pretty lame and sophomoric. So I read and responded and read some more...now even 'Deer thinks I have a chance...at least, he hasn't slammed the door in my sunny face!

Thanks for the reminder Rebecca...'sides, my muse is still out there sitting on someone else's shoulder...

I've been so busy with the kids you just wouldn't believe it....I try to get in here as often as I can to read everyone, just not enough hours in my days any more.....I'll do better I promise, and I loved this poem, it really does hurt to write out a part of myself to have it slip by unnoticed   -SEA

You know I had this as a differnt title! I saw it going slowly, so I went back and changed it to this, KNOWING it would catch people's attention!

It's not just replying to new people, but even some of the older members are experiencing this too. All members can experience their poems sinking with 1, 2 or no replies.

How about when you start, start on the last PAGE?  Take a look in Open #9 on the back pages, and tell me how many went to the back with zero replies. Anyone care to take me up on that challenge??
Actually someones first post gets recognized.

This morning, I went to the back page #8 here, and moved 3 poems up that had NO replies at all. I saw more with 1 reply, maybe 2 replies.

I actually posted (a poor attempt at that), the other day, and you know what? It sunk without so much as an acknowledgement. And I've been here OVER a YEAR!
Elizabeth did find it and reply, she still remains the ONLY one.  It wasn't so much the poem (which sucked), but what I was trying to do by posting it.

We don't need to see the flashing folder Suthern, as much as seeing that BIG PLUMP ZERO, and take a moment to read and reply.

I understand we all have our favorites here, I do also. But instead of FIRST reading theirs, why can't you open up one with less replies first? Actually there are some really GOOD poems going by unnoticed!

Yes, it's fast paced, and YES, we can find all the excuses in the world why we DON'T...
You still have to remember how it would feel if it were you!

Suthern I don't mind your long winded reply at all, you made a very good point!
The newer people aren't going to get as much gratification as the older members. You do need to get out there and reply, and make a name for yourself!

Karen I really didn't know I helped you like that, and you brought to me a smile tonight!
Thanks sweetie!   and BIG HUGS!

To all the rest I didn't mention here, thank you for taking the time to read it and respond, and thank you for trying to make it better for others.

We are know as PASSIONATE POETS for a reason! Right?

Wonderful poem Rebecca and truly genuine and wise words to live by within these walls of Passions. And Suthern, ROFL ... I was a newbie once ... I loved that comment, LOL!

It's so important to try to read new poets ... I try to read at "least" one new poet each time I'm online, because there is so much wonderful talent coming in daily, it's truly amazing.  If we all broaden our horizens, we'll all benefit. A new friend you reply to today, may be the one to find "your" poem on page 4 and bring it bubbling back to the top tomorrow!

Keep writing everyone, and I'll keep reading and responding to as many as I possibly can ... I just love this place!

Thanks for the wonderful reminder Rebecca!

Best wishes,
/Kit

At one time I tried to respond to as many posts with 0 responses as I could. I haven't done this lately. *hangs head in shame* I guess I should start the habit again as soon as I can. Thanks for the reminder and the thoughts.

Thanks you all! As I arrive here this morning, I'm finding zero replies on the second page. And these are not new poets!

I hope everyone reads this, and will at least try.

Thank you all for your understanding!

being Alice in Wonderland and walking directly into the mirror...

I shall hereby do the following:

attempt to respond with replies by going to the back pages first [handily, most computers show where you visited last as they are highlighted......]

and then I hereby vow to NOT post any of my own until I have satiated myself in reading and responses...

I do so solemnly vow...even when my muse is banging me over my head with poetic verse...

Your right, we all have our favorite poets and we look for their gems first.  There could be one blinking in our face and we will pass it by.  I will try to respond more to the new poets as I had that feeling of being overlooked.  I penned my "Disappointed" and got numerous responses.  I've noticed that if your new,  state that you are leaving Passions, or your new, you get quite a bit of responses.
Someone said earlier that many of us do not have the time to respond to all the post here at Passions.  With a full work day and then playing with my kids, I often find myself replying late at night or when I have a spare moment at work.  It's not easy, but I will try to respond more to those poets who have less that 3 responses.  Thanks for the gentle nudge.

You alluded to something very important, Rebecca....the TITLE! With sooooo many poems, it really should be something that grabs the potential reader. Perhaps more thought should be given to the title that we give to our poems...maybe as much time as the poem itself. When I am perusing an index of poetry (on paper), the title is what pulls me in...if the title is weak, uninteresting, the poem doesn't get read. I try to read as much as I can here in Passions, but it is getting harder and harder every day. But we can all read at least one poem from a newbie or one that has little or no replies. I'd really like to see more interesting titles though!

ggrn3 sadly you're right. When someone says good-bye it perks everyone right up to take notice! That's exactly what I'm trying to PREVENT with this!

I know how discouraging it can be to feel so left out you think why bother. I'm not noticed anyway. That's not a good feeling to have. We shouldn't have to say GOOD-BYE to get noticed!

I really appreciate you trying to respond to those with little replies! You will make some poet VERY HAPPY!

Denise, I agree, our titles have a lot to do with it too. But hey there are always going to be those we just can't find a smashing title to.  I've started looking at just the numbers of replies. NO NAMES...I've read some really good ones today, that only had a couple replies.

I'm sad to see a lot more of our older members haven't responded yet.
All I can say is I've tried, and I can't make anyone partake in this, or reply to any others than they have.  But I can make a difference ONE POEM AT A TIME!

I couldn't agree more!  I am so glad that you wrote this poem as a reminder to all of us.  I especially try to reply to new poets here to encourage them, but even I have my favourites and sometimes don't reply to others who are lesser known as often as I should.    I will definately try to post many replies equally.

Take care,

Hey,
You are correct.  People needed encouragement and to feel accepted.  I recently read one poet who wrote her last poem because she did not feel she received enough replies.  At the end she thanked those that did reply.  She had more people replying to her than I have.  I'm happy with just one reply, because that way I know that someone read it.  Even if they hated it, I'm still happy.  But, I guess some people need more.
Yes, when I posted my first poem I was so happy to get a reply.  It made me feel so good.  So, I try, with the limited time online I have, to always welcome newer poets, and to reply to as many poems as I can regardless of the poet's name.

Love is the law, love under will.
