Forest Burning

Forest burning, Island ablaze
Soulful cries lost in the haze

Flames raging, darkened skies
Day after day this earth it dies

Smoke churning, souls take flight
Visions blurred by dollars might

Blazing curse, this land clearing
This is their home that's disappearing

Hot wind blows, changes dawn
Rising up, you've been forewarned!

.....Sorry for the bump guys had to come back and fix the spelling mistakes.

Wow Eagle what an image you've painted here. My heart broke as I read and thought about all the senseless times I've seen our nations forrests ablaze on the evening news, and all the tragedy that it brings. Well done Eagle.

EagleOne~
I can feel your concerns in this one.
The critters of the forest flee ...
and where do they go ?
Nice write, my friend.

Juls...Sorry to have broken your heart but I am glad that this piece was able to touch you.

Marge....A concern to us all I would hope! Thanks for reading Marge, and for the tip!

Although this piece was acutally written for the Islands around Indonesia, Borneo, etc It can be applicable to all types of forest fires. In these places they tend to deliberately start huge fires simply to clear the land. The reference to flee the flames applies to the people as well as the animals. Sad to say the many times the fires are simply set without any warning at all!

Slash and burn is all they know
The land is parcelled free to go
And so next year another lot
Burning bright and burning hot
Not enough to try to teach
To safely reap what's within reach
And burdened by internal strife
Which is to end the forest's life

Beautiful poem about a sad topic
Yours is about our forests, perhaps, mine is about the Amazon. It's all the same

Liz....One day I would like to have just half of the talent you have for conveying your feelings, great poem.

Yes, you're right! In the end it is all the same. It doesn't matter whereit is,  it should not happen, should not be allowed to happen, yet we continue to allow it to be so! I do believe however that we are, ever so slowly and painfully, learning the lesson!

Thankyou for reading and for your comments, both are very much appreciated!

I missed this one EagleOne and I am so glad I found it now..you have penned such powerful words my friend...words that we need to take to heart...we rape this land of ours then wonder at the changes in the weather patterns and why mother earth no longer supports us...pretty dumb on our part huh?

Eagle, I look around lately and see the amount of burn off in the area. Your poem makes me wonder how much damage do they do in the guise of fire prevention. I know its a necessary evil.
I enjoyed your poem, it opened my eyes a bit. Thanks.

Paula.....You must have gone back a way to find this one...lol. I think that we, as a race, are not renowned for our intelligence, one only has to open ones eyes and look around to see proof of that every day.

Dee....It's not the small burn offs that are the problem as they merely mimic the natural order of nature( in most cases), it's the wholesale use of fire to clear lands for agriculture and other purposes. I'm glad you enjoyed.

Dark Angel......Thanks for stopping by, I'm glad that you enjoyecd this.

Living on the edge of the forest in Colorado -- where my town has been the axis of SEVEN fires this season that have claimed hundreds of thousands (!) of acres -- this strikes a personal note. I can't tell you how frightening it is waiting for the evacuation notice... The saddest part of this issue is that 90% of all forest fires are started by HUMANS. When will we ever start behaving on this planet?

But, wait, what was I saying? Oh, yes! Great poem, Eagle   . A very clear and true conveyance!
