Very Last Dance

I wonder if she will ever let go
of a five year relationship
that's been over for two.
And I wonder if it is really over
til we both find Love with someone new.
Yes I do believe our finest moments
long ago passsed us by
and for sure the time has come and gone
to say the final goodbyes.
You can rest assured no matter how
hard you may wish or try
I'm still not wanting to be your friend
and will never again gaze softly into your eyes.
I would have given my life to you
but that was when I still
believed your heart was true.
I have no doubt we'll never work this out.
So please try to see it my way and stay away.
I refuse to waste one more minute of my life in this way.
The truth is I'd rather try with someone new
than risk another hearbreak with you.
I gave you all those years to prove you could be mine
in return you complained and critized me most all of the time.
You came pretty close to destroying me
until the yearning in my heart broke me free.
And now you desire another chance!
Well now I do declare
it's time for you to contact Fred Astaire
because we will never tango again absolutely or perchance.
In case you don't know it that day has long since passed
when we danced our very last dance.

It is sad when someone you onced loved very deeply won't let go of the past.  I know this feeling very well.  But there comes a time when you just know it is over and you have " danced your last dance".

Great writing here James.  Well said.

Your so right jmlee, keep to your heart that's where your brand new life starts, she tried to loose you but you've made it out and somewhere out there. There's someone who will love you the way you should be loved! I really liked this poem I agree with Elizabeth it's as if you were talking to me and I could hear you so clearly.

Paula this strength came to me thru the passing of time and after much reflection and a strong desire not to be hurt anymore within the confines of this relationship...I had to accept the fact that I made a mistake...and it was very hard to let go of my feelings...this is a process that is hard to begin...but once the decision is finally made we receive the strength to make it thru...we always receive the strength...it is always waiting for us to grasp it...
Victoria thank you for the wonderful commments and I would very much like to see your foxtrot...ha...James

You have expressed yourself very powerfully and very well here.

James~
Wisdomed words are these -

'The truth is I'd rather try with someone new
than risk another hearbreak with you.'

The next dance begins when you are ready.

jmlee,
I understand exactly where you are coming from. Please though, if she did want a Very Last Dance, take it, you will almost certainly feel good within.

"I would have given my life to you
but that was when I still
believed your heart was true".

Respond to my call and let the waves of my heart fill your life with the wonders of love

Thank you Sea and Daniel...
Daniel my pain and anger tell me we have already danced our last dance and that is acceptable to me.
As I journey down life's road I know my thoughts and my heart will change...so I am only speaking for today but tomorrow I will find where my heart has taken me...named my youngest son Daniel Nathanael...love the name Daniel...James
