Listening to every heart

Pending Deafness

Shall I be as Beethoven
and suffer the loudness of quiet ~
to rely solely
on tonal qualities
that tremor through floorboards
and feel the disquiet
of one's touch
in their nervousness
of this
affliction?

A child wonders at blindness
& plays such games of bluff
enough so to be glad
to remove the folds of cloth
from face &
rejoice
in the light.

There, too, to play in water
& sea foam and know
momentarily (only)
the closed hush of
water's muffled qualities,
only to spring forth & up
&
relish the cry of the gull
or sound of bluejay, scolding.

To know deafness
may be coming
one does hidden things ~
listens carefully to all words
and measures with heartbeat
the beating heart, the child's whisper,
the cry of all babes,
even a dial tone
&
certainly,
a lover's voice.

Then quietly, prays
that the pending deafness
is a long time
coming.

Karilea,
Wonderful one of your best. I too listen for the same sounds. And when I get wax in my hearing aid I can't hear them LOL Sy.

Would it not be that the deaf hear all so clear
That which the rest of us can only fear
In the silence lies the beauty for so very few
As the rest can only guess at what they once knew

As impending deafness comes through shimmering night
And the loudness of quiet soars in morning flight
Would it not be better to hear upon deafness' face
With the knowledge of tomorrow's pounding upon your grace

To not hear the sounds of natrue
the sounds of a lover's voice. . .
This would be a prison
But still to not hear the touch of a lover's hand. . .
Would be death in life. . .

Superb my friend. . . as always. . .

Sy, I thought 'Deer's job was to clean all ears of wax...perhaps I'm confused...

Mark, your addition definitely outdoes the original...thank you...and thanks for the bump...

Sven...too true...
