*Although Sunshine's Challenge was "what song describes you best", I guess you could say this song "describes me" better than any other. Sigh ... feeling dumpy today, thought I'd share her painting since I'm "blue" enough (if I can get it to work).

"You And Me Against The World"

There has been many a night where
Human companionship was not enough ...
      Unable to console ...
      Unable to fill the deep void ...
      Unable to brush the tears away;
            Nights where only "my best friend" could
            Ease the endless pain I felt.

It is in these times, that a tender song heals my heart;
One I have cherished throughout many a long night.

As a child, it became the song I would sing aloud
For my treasured friend of youth.
      Full of sincerity ...
      Full of love ...
      Full of devotion ...
            For always, this bundle of joy was my child,
            My friend, and my beloved companion.

With her sorrowful passing, I found and shall always treasure
The legacy of love in memories, that moved gracefully from
One generation of companion to the next;

A new bundle of love to comfort me through trying times,
      One whom I would cherish ...
      One whom I would love ...
      One whom I would care for throughout all her days.

And as with my first, this song became
      A part of me ...
      A part of her ...
      A part of the bond so sweetly two entities can share ...
            It again, became the gentle mantra of two beings.

And in the end, when she quietly passed away in my loving arms,
It was this song I whispered to her one final time to light her passage;
      Through my tears ...
      Through my wavering voice ...
      Through my broken heart, I sang ...

      "You And Me Against The World".

Kit~
Simply beautiful ... and she sings her own songs in your memory.

Your painting is so lovingly filled with careful brushstrokes of love.
Beautiful, my friend.

~Marsha:  Thank you so much Marsha ... they bring so much joy and meaning to our lives, sometimes it's hard to let go.

~Janet Marie:  Oh JM ... thanks to you for such sweet words, I appreciate you remembering some of the other poems. When the mood hits, it makes for tough days of remembrance of these little furry kids.

~Kethry:  Thank you so much Kethry, your words mean a lot to me, I appreciate you reading.

~Marge:  You gave me the idea to post the painting when you posted my hummingbird picture ... thank you Marge. And I'm so appreciative of your tenderness. It was not an easy portrait to paint 4 months after she passed. Thank you.

~Vicky: Thank you for these lovely words Vicky. I'm very grateful your read and enjoyed.

~Sven:  Oh Sven, thanks so much ... I enjoy your responses, and appreciate it greatly.

~Liz:  You snuck in while I was typing. Thank you so much for these beautiful words ... I so very much appreciate it, my friend.

*As a little side note, I was quite ambivalent when it came to posting this piece as my emotions were a little raw. I keep this pretty internal, as I've been reminded too often "she was just a dog" ... sigh.  I truly thank you for your understanding responses. You are all wonderful medicine for this soul.

Much appreciation to all,
/Kit

Kit, my dear, she lifts her voice for you once again...

this is heartwarming and wrenching...and I adore you for it...

it is so hard to share pain, but know it comes back to you in loving hugs...

Your heart and your silent longing speaks volumes in both the words and the beautiful painting.   No matter what medium an artist choses,( and we all know there are many) when it is created with the heart then it is the one that glows the brightest and believe me, the stars have nothing over you in this one of yours.

Kit--

you'll have to excuse me if my reply isn't so great...this brought a lot of tears to my eyes...hard to type with them flowing but i will try. this was simply beautiful and heart wrenching. i am terribly sorry for your loss but the light and hope in this song and in your heart makes me smile. you are a very strong person and my admiration for you has been taken to an even higher level. take care and God Bless.

Kit, I remember this one too, and it was and still is an utterly amazing testiment of love. I agree it's so hard to let go, and I'm afraid that I never really do. They're always be in my heart, and I'm sure that they're in yours too.
Beautifully written, and I love the painting, it's so lovely.
Take care
