Back and forth I paced the floor,
Keeping my mind busy as my feet grew sore.
Nine, ten, eleven P.M. came along,
And I heard no news but the radios song.

People stared at me thinking "What's wrong with him"
As I sped or slowed my pace at the slightest whim.
I would sit for a few twiddling my thumbs,
Rubbing my tongue constantly over my gums.

Woman walks in and my mouth goes dry,
She shakes my hand gently and says "Hi.".
"Please come back now, we're ready to start now."
I follow frantically wiping sweat off my brow.

Two whole hours go by and we're finally done,
So many emotions, and words and all I can think is run.
"Congratulations you're the proud father of a healthy baby boy!" the doctor said,
I felt dizzy all of a sudden and fell hitting my head.

My friends laugh at me thinking of what a wimp I must've been,
And all I can do is smile as I touch my little boys chin.
I think back to that day over and over again,
Proud not only of the man my sons become, but of the friend.

So I have no choice but to shed these tears of joy,
As I look into the grown-up eyes of my little baby boy.....

Takes me back to when my son was born, though only just short of four years ago.
That is one day in my life that I will NEVER forget.
I look forward to future days with him.
Thanks for sharing Mark, very touching.

beautiful, I remember the day, though I have three daughters and of course I should being I'm the one who gave birth to them, It's the most amazing thing seeing a new life and knowing their part of you.

I have two daughters and the joy I felt when they were born is comparable. Sadly, I can not have anymore children. Perhaps there will be son-in-laws someday. I only hope that they will have benefited from such a loving and talented father and raised and loved with that which you have bestowed upon your son.  What a fine man he must be!
