Why I Write

Here I sit in the late night
Staring at a brightly lit screen
My fingers poised on the keys
Waiting for the words to come.

I wonder what drives me to
Sit here night after night
Struggling to find the words
That scrabble in my thoughts

I write to say I love you
Making sure the people
Who are closest to me
Have my words to remember

I write when I am hurting
In attempt to try to exorcise
The demons that swirl inside
And haunt this heart of mine

I write when I am angry
To vent out this emotion
That builds and intensifies
Without hurting the ones I love

I write when I’m happy
To share the joy I have found
And so I can have these words
In my more trying times

I write because it beckons me
It calls to me, softly chanting
My fingers moving over the keys
Beyond my control as words flow.

I write because I find myself
When I feel lost and alone
It brings me home..finds me
Bringing me the comfort I long

I write because it has been my friend
Something I can always turn to
My constant that is always there
Waiting to offer me solace

I write because it is who I am.

And a better you we could not ask for.  Wonderfully put into words why most of us write.  I think we all fall into at least a few of these catagories to say the least.

Well done.

rosepetals...
Very well put!! I, too, write for all those reasons, but mostly just because I can't help myself. It's an addiction, for which I hope they never find a cure!!!

Today is a gift....
That is why they call it
'the Present'!

Writing is sharing a piece of who we are~
Winging it's way to rest within the heart of another -

Thank you for sharing you with me.
