~The Visionary's Autumn~

Earlier the sun sinks below the horizon leaving its soft glow
of orange whipped clouds dotting the beautiful expanse of blue.
Earlier deep black of sky shines bright with brilliant stars,
winking their peaceful goodnights as north winds enter on cue.

Barren elms swaying in the cool breeze tuck close their limbs
and branches of the mighty oak curl brittle their leaves
before unattaching in gentle dive to grounds leafy mounds;
preparing for next year's new garment of green-budded sleeves.

Scurrying to and fro are the busy, bushy-tailed squirrels
comically frantic in their search for feasts of walnut and acorn.
Geese form their magnificent V’s in familiar flocking to warmth
as the gentle dove builds furred nesting in the dewy chill of morn.

A quietness lies o'er the browning meadow like a comfortable quilt,
preparing for long slumber as the first flurry of snowflakes fall.
Resting in peaceful interlude are the waters gently streaming
below fine sheen of icy shield, patient for its warming call.

Good evening chansondegeste,
What a lovely picture of autumn you have painted. I can hear the leaves rustle as they get ready to fall, and of the squirrel, I have one right outside my window. Very nicely done.
