In answer to your latest challenge to me, I have to admit, it is a tough one. So many of these poems are full of the excitement of the initial emotional rush and physical fireworks that seem to imbue the soul of new lovers, that good poems about the long lasting qualities of a relationship are few and far between.
However, I do call to mind the words of the following song which I have never forgotten. This song was done by the Canadian folk singer Valdy, but I know for a fact that he did'nt write the words or melody. Maybe someone out there can tell me who did.

I like the way that your hair falls away
when the night brings a candle to you,
and I like to stare as you come down the stairs
and the light from the landing shines through.
How many falling leaves will it take to believe
that Autumn has finally come
and the weather's grown colder and we've both grown older,
it's so hard to believe we're still one.

So lets dance that old dance once more
We'll still move as smooth on the old ballroom floor
I'll wear my Sunday best you wear your favourite dress,
and lock up the door.
Let's dance that old dance once more.

Well you hung around kept my feet on the ground
while I acted as proud as a fool.
We were kids now we've grown got kids of our own
got to raise by the old golden rule.
But somehow it seems that some of our dreams
got discarded somewhere along the road,
when all that was true could be found in the blue
of your eyes that still sparkle and glow.

So let's dance that old dance once more
we'll still move as smooth on the old ballroom floor
I'll wear my Sunday best you wear your favourite dress
and lock up the door,
let's dance that old dance once more.

The frost king has come and with a flick of his thumb,
turned our windows to renaissance art.
As we sit round the fire with no need to inquire
about the ways of the soul and the heart.
The years passed us by like a soft whispered sigh
not noticing our youth as it flew
but it's easy to tell that your wear your age well
not having to prove you're still you.

So let's dance that old dance once more
we'll still move as smooth on the old ballroom floor
I'll wear my Sunday best you wear your favourite dress
and lock up the door
let's dance that old dance once more.

I may have a couple of the words wrong because I am doing this from memory but for the most part they're accurate.

I dedicate this song to you A Romantic Heart for coming up with such a great idea for a poetic challenge.
Now I will have to go to work on it!

Ethome, I am crying as I read your dedication, For I have never been so moved, so touched by anothers words, I am speechless, and my heart is fluttering to see someone saying this to me, I am honored,
WOW!!!I can't believe it, thank you so much, you have made my day, my life,...I look for more of you   This has touched me so deeply, you have made me feel so special...hug to you..

I like the way that your hair falls away
when the night brings a candle to you,
and I like to stare as you come down the stairs
and the light from the landing shines through.
