Well, having thought long and hard about this, I have decided to reply to Sven's challenge with a repost of one of my favourite poems, Love's Champion. I originally posted it under another name, but as it is so appropriate, just couldn't resist   Anyway, without further ado....

Love's Champion.

Snorting
stamping
straining
eager for battle
dappled, mail clad, charger thunders into view
in clouds of billowing steam
spurred on by master's passion
rearing
turning
awaiting battle.

He pauses
grudgingly
tense from rider's fire
shaking snowy head
awaiting battle.

Sir Knight
suited in plates of steel
cloaked in whitest silk surcoat
holding ivory shield,
emblazoned with gilt wings of an Angel
dips his lance
to flame haired princess
receiving her token
freely given
then smiles
as he spurs his mount
onwards
awaiting battle.

Black Knave
armored in trickery
shielded by cunning words
rides slowly forward
awaiting battle?

The Champion
chuckling softly
turns his back disdainfully
returning to his love's side
and says softly,
"MY Lady
I need not soil my lance
with his foul blood
for the battle for thy heart
was won long ago.
But know thee now
shouldst need arise
I, servant and champion
am here
awaiting battle."

Ahhh, you've met this challenge with a twist Eric!  Well done ... no need to fight it out then?  Beautifully written and picturesque, I could feel the hooves prancing about and see the suitor's sly smile!  Terrific poem!

Best wishes,
/Kit

Eric, whomever this was written to must realize how much you love her! This was a passionate, beautiful piece that is really well written to boot. If the other men in Passions even meet this poem halfway this joust should prove to be VERY interesting. All in all you have my vote for the most romantic poem.

This fair lady bows to the Champion of the Flame Haired Lass...

well done thy knight of bravery, such romantic words thy hand has written,
Enough to make a maiden smitten, returning to his love's side
and says softly,
"MY Lady
I need not soil my lance
with his foul blood
for the battle for thy heart
was won long ago.
But know thee now
shouldst need arise
I, servant and champion

Thankyou all for your kind replies... you've made my day already and it's only just started

Kit, I'm glad you could really feel this one. I couldn't have done it without Dobbin

Danny, thankyou... but all I do is serve My Lady

Heather, believe me, she knows   *bowing with a flourish*

Ethome, I've always enjoyed books about King Arthur and his knights so it was a pleasure writing in that style. I'm glad you feel I've done it justice

Sven, a rough pat on the back and a tankard of ale for you. Thankyou for giving me the chance to repost this   Even now my squire is polishing my thinking cap for round two of the joust.

'Deer... did you REALLY say excellent about my writing? Praise indeed

Sharon, I'm glad it made you *sigh*. When my poetry makes someone feel then I know I've done my job

And Romantic Heart, it's hard making up 8 original thankyous all in one go, so just... thankyou

And so, with bows to the ladies and a hearty grin for the gents, this knight rides off to another field. Thankyou ALL

Eric.

And Netswan, sneaking in there while I'm writing my thankyous... a big thankyou to you too. Maybe you'll get some gore if this goes to round two?

*bloodthirsty grin*
Eric.

Nan, yes, I do already know you love this one but it's still encouraging to see it. Thankyou!

Tracie, I'm glad you liked the imagery... I spent AGES looking for the right words to use

And Dreamer, if you can find delight in poetry then you can't be truly Lost.

Thanks all,
Eric

Beautifully done Eric. A classy poem with lots of vivid images, set of certain tell-tale signs...

Regards, sudhir

My heart is pounding, my stomach's inside out
I'm feeling kind-a-shaky, my mind is full of doubt
All I ever think about, is fearing fear itself,
Wish I could unscrew my head and put it on the shelf
Everything is twisted, everything is oh so tight,
Don't know what I'm looking at, the lights are all too bright
My brain's about to crumble, spill out on the floor
Sweep 'em up. Throw 'em away, don't want 'em anymore
Clouds race across the sky, day turns into night,
Still there are the questions, no answers in sight
Everything is twisted, everything is oh so tight,
Starin' out the window, everything is just too bright
Brain's about to crumble, spill out on the floor,
Wish I could unscrew my head, and kick it out the door...
You know I'm feeling kind-a....Strange
You know I'm feeling kind-a....Strange

Simply wonderful......and her I sit and wish I could have done so well......

It takes only a minute to get a crush on someone, an hour to like someone, a day to love someone, but it takes a lifetime to forget someone.
