High Heels and Black Silk Stockings

High heels and black silk stockings
smoking room her youth in bloom
with conversation sweet, not lasting
and memory with lots of room.

In the hallway by the pay phone
drenched and open with perfume
he told her just how much he loved her
swept her from her feet too soon.

She saw loving as the answer
full and open as the song
that played the jukebox ever after
how could she have been so wrong.

Bare feet and quilted comfort
she was young with fairy tales
thought her beauty held the answer
her girlhood dreams in truth had failed

Knights with armor to protect her
she believed with all her heart
would keep her safe forever after
from this youthful pain she’d part.

She gave herself beneath the moonlight
in the park across the street
when she woke the dew was glistening
as she sat alone to weep.

High heels and black silk stockings
smoking room her face a ploy
of conversation sweet, not lasting
and memory of a heart destroyed.

Ah, Martie, well penned.  I have often wondered how so many mothers who tell their
children of the pain of the broken heart
and the kids through generations seldom
listen.

This one has been acted out many times for sure. High heels and black stockings should be registered as deadly weapons, which backfire occasionally. This is a vivid and realistic portrayal, Martie. Nicely done.....

ahhh the acts of misspent youth. Nice feel for being trapped in a situation that is not what it originally seemed or that we hoped it to be. But, we have to live life to learn about it...good and bad

Martie... I deal with the results of your poem on a regular basis.  Such pain inflicted when one ventures into the *real* world still clinging onto the perceptions of childhood.  Exceptional writing as always.

Martie~
The scene moves slowly through the mind
of so many who take this path - and wake
up to reality with a thud !

'She saw loving as the answer
full and open as the song
that played the jukebox ever after
how could she have been so wrong.'

Nicely done, my friend.

Yanno, Martie - maybe it would have turned out different if you had worn taupe stockings instead of those ugly black ones... just a suggestion for your next foray at being a lil vamp - lol.

Great poem
