They were far too brief, the moments-
That I held you next to me.
When we used words like “forever”…
But we knew they could not be.

Stolen moments in our life times…
We played a game of “let’s pretend”.
That we lived within some dream world,
But we knew that it would end.

Oh, the pleasure of those moments-
Now, I know I’ll not forget…
Bittersweet, and very painful-
That we met, I’ll not regret.

On such times we hang the tapestrys-
Which represent our lives.
While the moments quickly leave us,
Long their memories survive.

Stolen moments, stolen visions-
Of a life beyond our ken…
Lives not meant for jaded ladies,
Nor for calloused, hardened men…

But from time to time, those moments-
Uninvited, come to mind.
Of a girl, a night, a vision…
That I’ve long since left behind.

This is sad!  What popped in mind while reading it was, we really don't know what we have until it's gone.  I'm sorry your heart broken    May brighter days come along your path, and God bless you with someone wonderful!

Gunslinger, the last four lines say it all.
a girl, a night, a moment, now only in memory. Not sure if the experiences were better in reality or now in reflection.
The times of our lives, filed away neatly in our memories.....the stuff life is made of I suppose.
~~nice writing~~

Great poem! Those stolen moments seem to mature our deepest thoughts. Great work as usual. Nice to hear from you on this board. E. Lewis True

The stolen moments are the ones I treasure the most... Holding a dear friend for just that night, and knowing that is all it will be is bittersweet but worth anything at this moment. One of my favorites of your poems I've read so far....

Time flies? Say it not so, time stays we go.
