Having a Gay Old Time

He said his name was Robert
And we met there quite by chance
They were playing dancing music
Though I didnít know how to dance

But Iíd had a margarita
And the band was really hot
And he looked to be so friendly
So I said to him, why not

We started out a little slow
A reggae beat for sure
The louder that the music got
The more I wanted more

We were center of attention
We won first prize in the dance
And I was thinking this might
Just turn out to be romance

Then they played a slow old favorite
And he danced so heavenly
But I started getting strange vibes
That this Robert was a she

Now I never beat around the bush
I say what needs be said
But the fact that I didnít know his sex
Turned cheeks a scarlet red

The winners of the dance contest
Were called to dance alone
And although my face was red hot red
I shivered to the bone

We danced a hot lambada
Swaying those lambada hips
In agony some phony laughter
Spewed out from my lips

I really can forgive his sex
Deceit I canít forgive
I would like to know the gender of
The one Iím dancing with

We finally got a table
He said, Is something on your mind
I said I would like to ask you this
(With words I couldnít find)

I took my time to choose the phrase
So as not to offend
I approached the subject carefully
And chose my words again

This question must be dealt with
In a delicate, subtle way
So with diplomatic tact I asked him
Robert are you gay

His mouth dropped open then he laughed
In ways Iíd never known
And he never gave straight answers
And deceit was clearly shown

Just look at those long fingernails
And features way too fine
I bet he pulled a hundred girls in
With that fishy line

I said Robert look,  if that is true
Then I can be your friend
But listen up, pal ,we can dance
But this is where it ends

Some folks came up and said
You two just dance to beat the band
How would they know I got stuck here
With a ďLolaĒ on my hands

I havenít any real idea
Of WHAT I have at hand
Either he thinks heís a she thatís he
Or she thinks sheís a man

And then the thought occurred to me
To check out finger length
And that clinched it, yes he was a man
Oh, lord please give me strength

I would have rather have a woman
That's dressed up to be a man
But ďLolaĒ hereís a man dressed
Like a woman like a man

I was getting all confused inside
I really liked this guy
But if heís a man-girl-man
Then I will have to say Goodbye

But then the thought occurred to me
What if heís just plain straight
And setting me up as a fool
To pay for my mistake

Perhaps he plays classic guitar
And grows his nails real long
I bet heís laughing deep inside
Of what is going on

Of course heís just a man, I thought
An ordinary man
I owed him an apology
That things got out of hand

I said look, Iím really sorry
Can we start this dance anew
He said your right, Iím just a man
I was just taunting you

He kissed my hand and said letís dance
Forget what has been said
Youíre just so pretty when your puzzled
Mind has been mislead

I said, to make it up to you
Lets get on out of here
Thereís a cozy little restaurant
Where they serve the greatest beer

And as we left I laughed a bit at
What foolishness was bred
By making sly assumptions
Of what wasnít even said

I think that love was brewing
It was very clear to me
We hailed a cab and headed
To that cafe by the sea

Then Robert told the cabby
How Ďbout a tour for my new friend
I felt like such a fool that those
Suspicions took me in

The cabby turned and with a smile said
Lola, how ya been?

Oh Liz! You got me laughing this morning! Oh man, or women, I don't know what I'd do in a situation like that.  Great tale Liz!

Hillarious, Elizabeth! You actually had me feeling the discomfort of the situation!

Thanks for the comments
I hope this didn't offend any readers. I wrote it for a gay friend of mine and he wanted me to post it.
I gotta write something to cheer myself up.
Hope you enjoy it

Hi Liz
That was very creative. The sight of a gay person and the lady dancing gives a chuckle.
