Listening to every heart

0 posted 2000-06-03 01:14 PM

She

In the stillness of the dark
when comfort should envelop your mind,
the old tapes begin to play
and they do not treat you kind.

She still tugs at your heartstrings,
no matter that I wear your ring,
she still plays in your memory
even tho it's my green eyes you should see.

I cannot move over, she shares our bed,
even tho it's my voice you hear in your head,
is it that I am so like her?
even my mirror is no longer sure.

Perfume no longer scents my skin
for her jasmine invades the wind,
and I no longer curl my hair,
it's not seen as past me you stare.

And should my voice break through the shield,
and if only from want, you to me yield,
I think it will be well worth the wait
so her invisible specter I cannot hate.

She still tugs at your sore heartstrings
its her memory that creates the sting,
and someday when you look in my green eyes,
will the love you lost be realized.

sunshine, I really liked this a very interesting poem, a ghost from the past still haunts the present.

I cannot move over, she shares our bed,
even tho it's my voice you hear in your head,
is it that I am so like her?
even my mirror is no longer sure.

Perfume no longer scents my skin
for her jasmine invades the wind,
and I no longer curl my hair,
it's not seen as past me you stare.

And should my voice break through the shield,
and if only from want, you to me yield,
I think it will be well worth the wait
so her invisible specter I cannot hate.

stong conflict in your words, great poem.

Reminds me of when I first broke up with my wife, long time ago, and I would still think about her all the time and compare other women to her.  The new women in my life would be ready for a relationship because they had been single for a long time and they would pressure me to get involved with them, but I wasn't ready to let go of her yet.  It took me about 2 years to get over her and I lost about 3 opportunities because I wasn't ready, I needed time.  I would actually get angry with them for trying to rush me.   James

well written poem Sun,
a very painful place to be in,
you have expressed it with grace in this sad but lovely piece.
take care, jm

There are places inside our hearts ...
that need to be loved this much.

Gentlemen, thank you so much for reading this, and for your responses.  Sometimes we ladies think we are the only ones who get hurt...meanwhile, at least the two of you, and me, know differently...

Janet Marie, you snuck in on me...thank you for your comment...

oooooh now this has bite, poor you!
There's a song about a woman who was treated like a painting on all....
"Maybe He'll Notice Me Now"
reminds me of this.
Good job

It's a hollow feeling, and a difficult situation to be in.

God grant me the serenity to accept the people I cannot change, the courage to change the one I can, and the wisdom to know it's me. ~Unknown
