This one is for you my friend
To heaven these wishes I send
Was ten years ago since that day
Blue skies turned to gray
I'd seen you just the week before
No idea we would talk no more

I remember you were doing fine
Everything seemed to fall into line
Life was treating you grand
Your dreams were written in the sand
Oh how quickly they were washed away
When you died that fateful day

It really was not your fault
When life came crashing to a halt
The man in the semi had been drinking
Who could know what he was thinking
The light turned red he could not stop
I wish he hadn't drunk a drop

The truck was going too fast
He hit you broadside with a blast
An innocent life in a moment lost
Your future was the cost
You are not forgotten I want you to know
So on your grave I place a single rose

This is a lovely tribute.  I knew a girl once who used to drink and drive.  She didn't think anything of it until she ran three kids off the sidewalk one day as they walked home from school.  She can't live with herself now.  She was sick before this happened, now she's worse...she's a recluse and won't let anyone near her.

Jana,

Thank you for the ind words and sharing your friend's story.  Drinking and driving just do not mix.  My friend had her whole life ahead of her....only to have it taken away by a man who thought there was nothing wrong with drinking and driving a semi.  Truly tragic.  She was killed instantly...never had a chance.  I hope that your friend learns from what she has done and comes to terms with it.  Life is a terrible thing to waste.

LoneWolf~
God, how you touched my heart with this.
My youngest brother was killed due to the selfish negligence of a drunken driver.
Mike had a wife, baby son and adopted daughter waiting for him at home that fatal July night.  It broke our hearts to lose him and especially so early in his life and so tragically.

I'm so sorry for the loss of your friend.
My heart has cried for almost 20 years for the loss of my brother, Mike.

The drinking drivers won't ever learn ...
they are selfish moronic butt-holes who usually walk away without a scratch and play the martyr ... I have no sympathy for their plight and wish them nothing but sleepless tortured nights of remembering pain the way I remember losing my beloved brother.

*HUGS* to you.

Lone Wolf,

It's so sad and hard to lose an innocent in this manner.  My little brother lost his daughter to a drunken garbage truck driver. Sandra was only 2 yrs. old, driving home with her grandmother. Both died instantly.  The driver of the garbage truck had a couple of scratches.  The crime of it all.  They may be gone but not forgotten.  You have my prayers.

It can be hard to loss a loved in such a tragedy, my brother's best friend lost one of his brothers who was killed in a car crash, he was speeding and went off the road.

A lovely tribute to your friend, I am sorry for the loss of your friend.

Sven....thank you and yes, it is very hard when they go that way.

Jeffrey....truly sad.  I checked out your poem....sad also my friend.

Poet deVine....thank you.

JM....an awful lot was lost in this senseless tragedy.  Thank you and healing is why I write, my friend.

Marge....I am so sorry for the loss of your younger brother, my friend.  Sounds like Mike had a lot to live for and a family that loved and misses him very much.  That is so sad to hear.  After 10 years I still cry for the loss of my friend.  She was the one who deserved to live, but unfortunately the idiot who killed her walked away without a scratch on him.  I have no sympathy for them either and hope he has had his share of sleepless nights living with the guilt of taking an innocent life from this earth in such a needless selfish way.  My heart goes out to you, Marge.
*HUGS* back to you!!

Lorainne....so sorry to hear of the loss of your niece and her grandmother.  That is so sad and tragic.  I know I will never forget my friend though she is gone.  Thank you for the prayers....know you have mine as well.

Brian....Thank you for the kind words.  I am sorry to hear of your brother's friends loss.  I guess I will never understand why these people make such ill thought decisions.  Perhaps Marge is right and they will never learn....guess we can only hope they do.
