Opening Doors

Where was it I found you?
Curving your callused fingers
around the pruning sheers, I think,
burning with youth.

You were like a breeze
that afternoon
touching my loneliness
with your warm fingers.

I thought of tears
and so many lost years
and you said
I was beautiful
and you brought me sweet peas.

We drank white wine
and music played us into evening
and my children frowned
when they saw my gleam.

I wondered what pleasure
your arms wrapped ‘round would bring
and if I could just once touch you
with my jaundiced need
then I would not feel so cold.

Was it twenty years that passed
and proved that there are always doors
that can open into happiness?

How nice to think that this is true.  You spin a good story.  I hope the children eventually approved!

Martie,

So happy for you!!  It is never too late to open those doors.  Just have to summon the courage to walk through.  Great writing!!

Martie~
Sooooooo ... you clipped the 'clipper', huh ?
He just 'pruned' his way into your garden.
Now ... I'm not gonna say, 'that's a lot of manure' ... but he's sure 'cultivated' the beauty of a 'blossom' in you.
Gosh, you two should open a florist shop or something !

LOVE YOU~

That's it...you need a title - and I have it:

Martie, the Queen of Imagery....

Your poetry blows me away...

I hate to admit this, but when I finished reading, a song came to mind...
O' Sweet Pea, come on and dance with me...
Martie, you surely are queen of the ball and there is one extremely fortunate gentleman out in California.
A beautiful poem btw.

the poem was wonderful, but what you said in one of your replies really moved me, "it takes courage to open and close doors"
I recently had to close one, and I didn't feel courageous, but I see now it took more courage (in my case)  close it. thank you for this.
