The Dream

Oppressive slumber, wicked cold and stark,
Domain of heartless imps of evil schemes.
Please rescue me from nightmares of the dark,
And banish every ghost of restless dreams.
Transport me to that place where lovers dwell,
Enveloped in a shroud of perfect peace,
Where sorrows of a saddened sleep dispel,
And aches of love that’s lost must surely cease.
Your words must push unfounded fears aside,
As feelings strive to conquer intellect.
To comfort and to stem the rushing tide,
Of poignant pains, destructive and direct.

Declare your love unwavering and true,
And ease this racing heart that pines for you.
